To pay for the meal? (yes),

    No problem then

I often see signs saying wet paint,
    but I don't.

Easier to ask for a discount with the folding stuff under their nose.
do I take it that the OP has not got any actual real money then? you know cash with Queenies picture on it.

Not sure how likely it is to get a discount in a restaurant if I did pay by cash.

I chose to pay by American Express as it was a cashback credit card, and as it I'm on the 1.5% cashback tier, I know for sure I'd get the 1.5% discount, if you look at it that way.

If I wanted to pay for the meal in cash, I had enough on me anyway, for me to do so.
  • that's pretty stupid of them to give you the bill in an amex holder when they don't take amex. either they got some free promotional bill holders with the logo on them or they used to take amex until they wised up to the fact that they are just paying extra bank charges to give you a small amount of cashback. either way it sounds like a rotten restaurant... don't go there again, natural selection will soon see them off and replaced by a restaurant which uses common sense.

Sure, if you want to boycott a restaurant because of the folder in which they present the bill, then go ahead!

I'll decide on the basis of the food.... In my experience, the best places have little marketing/branding knowledge. I like it that way.
  • Well done OP for following up.

I expect they have kept the American Express brand to give the impression of one upmanship, posh etc.

You dine in the restaurant and as a punter you might think, well if they can afford the merchants charge at American Express they must be doing very well as so many establishments cannot afford to pay them. Places like B&Q banned them as they could not justify their merchant charges.

My local garage had signs up for Forte car products (very good in my opinion). It gives the impression they use Forte products, not so. I asked them for forte diesel treatment, you put in with your fuel and cuts smoke omissions and was told they dont sell any Forte products.

Why have a poster advertising Forte products, so when you take your car in for repairs you think they must be using Forte products so they must be good?

Well done OP for raising a very valid issue :)

    I don't.
I think they just didn't give it a second thought and have been too busy to even think about throwing the folders out.

It's different to advertise something before a meal rather than after.

Too busy dealing with real business issues to worry about posters?
so when you take your car in for repairs you think they must be using Forte products so they must be good?
You make your judgments on posters?
I make my judgements on restaurant food/service and garage service not on posters or folders.
I find it pretty shallow that you make your judgements about a business on it's temporary decor.
