American Express advertised (sort of) at restaurant, but wouldn't accept it?!

I'm pretty sure in the Amex terms and conditions it has a clause saying "Should you stop welcoming the American Express, All American Express stickers and merchandise should be returned to us within 30 days"
This may be true, but it's a bit sad if people have nothing better to do than to write letters in complaining about them using receipt folders they shouldn't be using.0 -
Rang them up, details of the restaurant will be passed to their marketing department.
They thanked me for the call, as they are concerned the restaurant are using American Express branded merchandise and refusing my payment.
But giving them FREE advertising :eek:Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
Petty - maybe. I rang them up, and that's it, I'm not going to follow it up, and ring them up a few days later to see how it's going on. It's up to American Express now whether they want to take action or not.
Being handed a bill in a restaurant in an American Express branded receipt folder, it is natural to assume they accept it, if not they shouldn't be using it.
So that people know, if the restaurant still wants to use the folders, they can simply put a sticker over it, cross a line through it, or put a note inside the folder saying they don't accept it.0 -

Well, sounds like a guess but you might be right. I don't remember seeing anything like that and certainly stuff like the folders were being sold - ie not given away free.Being handed a bill in a restaurant in an American Express branded receipt folder, it is natural to assume they accept it, if not they shouldn't be using it.
It's widespread in Asia and I've seen it before in the UK. Actually I disagree about "shouldn't". I think it's a bit cheap (like they can't afford their own branded folder). But I would only assume Amex is accepted if I saw the proper stickers on the window.0 -
Some people have got too much time.....0

Haha half the problem with Asia, the place normally takes the card it just doesn't particularly want to :P0 -

Not really, hence I just rang them up, and left it that. Only took 5 minutes of my time (and the creation of this thread).
If I did have a lot of time on my hands, I'd have caused a scene in the restaurant, made a fuss, asked to see the manager, demanding why they're not accepting my card, when it's got their logo clearly displayed on their receipt folder. I would follow this up with American Express, tweet about, put it on Facebook etc.
Right, I'm off out for a  (paying in cash!)0 -

To pay for the meal? (yes), as compensation? (don't want any - though if I did I don't know what I expect to get!).
Thought it would be interesting to raise the point though, and find out other's people's opinions, and also learnt as it's been seen before here in the U.K. I now know to expect it to happen again.0 -
Easier to ask for a discount with the folding stuff under their nose.0
