Painter coming in needing advice

Hi All,

Bit of Advice really

I'm home alone at the moment, I may be 23 but we have a painter coming in tomorrow to do the kitchen celing he says it will be an all day job, but at 12pm i have a job interview up london what can i do with the painter being in?

As i'm a bit worried that something might go missing.

Why on earth did you make an arrangement if you knew you were going out? Could a neighbour or relative sit in for you?

I'd leave the painter to it, you've got to trust people to some extent.

Have you not got a neighbour/friend/family to look after house/flat whilst he/she is there?

kitchen ceiling should on take an hour or two not all day an tops half a day and that's dragging it out, assuming its just one coat of emulsion

He's got to apparently do three layers two in the morning then leave the doors open and wait for it to dry then come back and re do it

To be honest, it is an outrageous statement to say that something might go missing. Anyone could steal anything in your house, whether you are there or not. My husband was a decorator for many a year and if he ever got a sniff of anyone distrusting him, he would have told them go get someone else.
A professional will not steal from you. If you employ a flybynighter, I could understand your concerns, but you insult every trustworthy professional by your comments.

What I would say in Capital Letters is IF YOU DONT TRUST THEM, DONT EMPLOY THEM.

He is ripping you off anyway, 3 coats indeed, never in a million years, get him to do 2 coats in the morning, pay him for at the most 3 hours work and say thank you very much, dont come back. He is expecting you to actually pay for the time he is doing nothing while waiting for the paint to dry, :rotfl:
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

  • We had his dad in about a month ago to do the plastering for the ceiling, he wants to charge £110 including paint & he says he will have to put two layers on in the morning, then come back and do another layer once its dried but he's gotta keep all the windows and that open?
