I intend to return the offer tomorrow accepting it, but also put in a letter stating that I agree to a assessment prior to starting if OH require this, also a reminder that I have to give 4 wks notice in my current position so would appreciate notifiction when CRB is cleared...though if my memory serves me right its actually me the CRB comes to......obviously the CRBs can take upto 6 - 8 wks at time, then I have to give 4 wks notice!!
I am considering asking that once the CRB is recieved...maybe I could go in voluntarily for a few hours now and then to shadow to see what exactly is involved so I have a idea of what my shift/shifts would involve....do you thik this would be a good idea? ....I have no doubt that I am more than capable of carrying out the position....but also think it would be good to have a little insight before starting.
Hi I have been away from my pc for a few days so don't know where you are up to. However, my own view is that if you should just accept the position (if that is what you want to do). Placing conditions on how and when you accept the post simply makes it sound like you are now unsure whether you actually want the job.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
I agree, that sounds more like you want 'try before you buy'This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Yes agree with both above......am waiting for CRB at the moment, wish I'd thought to take number off the form...I didn't realise you could track it now!0

Well recieved my copy of CRB 2wks ago, contacted the company the following and they said that they hadn't recieved their copy and it was probably ' floating around ' at head office.
So I emailed head offices HR dept., who confirmed they did have the copy of CRB and would end it to relevent home that day....that was 10 days ago, still havent heard anything re., start date etc.,
I emailed the home manager again on Tuesday, stating that 'I believed they were now in reciept of my CRB, references and any other relevent paperwork, and could they now possibly inform me of a start date, as obviously I have to give my current employer 4wks notice and that my current employer will obviously be needing to sort staff rotas for before/over/after the Christmas period'
I still have not heard anything.....I really do not know what to do now???0 -

Stop with the e-mail and send an old fashioned letter by special delivery to the home, with a copy to HR (also by special delivery) along the following lines
Dear [name]
Re: position of housekeeper at [insert name] residential care home [insert town]
I refer to the offer of the above position dated [insert date of the FIRST offer]. I understand from my telephone conversation with HR HQ on [date] that the CRB check, references, and all other paperwork are now in place. I should therefore be grateful to hear from you with a start date, bearing in mind that I am required to give 4 weeks' notice to my current employer.
Yours sincerely
Skibadee
Special delivery costs a bit more, but you get a downloadable copy of the signature (and often the name and title) of the person accepting the letter. You also get 'guaranteed' next day delivery. This gives you evidence if you continue to have a problem with them. Registered post is useless as the royal mail often do not obtain a signature or any evidence of delivery, so you might as well not bother. Special Delivery will bring the letter to the attention of the powers that be.
I suspect that the home manager simply doesn't want you and is being browbeaten by HR. If this is the case, you may wish to consider whether you do really want to work for someone who is making it so clear that she is employing you under sufferance. Nevertheless, you do need to start to compile a 'dossier' of evidence, in case this all goes belly up - tribunals are old fashioned - they like to see 'proper letters'.I'm a retired employment solicitor. I think you mean Recorded Delivery, Registered post was abolished years ago and merged with Special Delivery.
I agree about the frustrations about Recorded Delivery. Although you can always get "proof of delivery" this is not necessarily in the form of a signature from a person at the firm.0 -

Walk away?
I'd only consider this job if I had no other to go to. Are you giving up a good job for this? It isn't going to end well.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

I'm inclined to agree.
I have concerns as I expressed back in post 36. Maybe the employer will turn her down and leave themselves open to a discrimination claim. I feel that would be the best outcome as I would be very nervous about working there.0 -

LOL! Yes, sorry you are right, I meant Recorded Delivery.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Well another day without any correspondance etc.,
I am inclined to agree with you all......my husband and I have also been thinking is the senario.....when they withdrew first offer to me, did they, maybe, offer the position to someone else as well as reoffering it to me????
I am going to give them until tomorrow, if nothing then a going to write.....do you think directly to the home or straight to HR or both?0
