Hi,
I have just noticed the above appearing in my Internet connections, I am on broadband so this seems odd.
I have AVG , Symantec firewall ADaware and Spybot.
just run scans and nothing shows.
Was this an attempt to set-up a dialler?
Does anyone know what the settings for dial-ups should be?
Being a careful sort I have unplugged my dial-up modem connection.

It sounds like you have some sort of dialler. If you do then in some respects you are quite lucky, as most of these dial premium rate numbers at anything up to £1.50 per minute, not national rate numbers.

The first step would be to update Adaware. This scans your machine for common diallers and other spyware elements. You can download it for free here........

Install it, start the program, click the link to update it then scan your machine and remove anything that it finds.

Another way to tackle this is to not allow your PC to dial out at all unless you specifically ask it to. You can achieve this by following these steps:

Start Internet Explorer. Click Tools then Internet Options then the Connections tab. Select "Never dial a connection" from the options then hit Apply then OK. Exit IE. Now go into the Control Panel and click on Network Connections. You will see an icon for AOL or whichever other ISPs you use. Right-click the icon and select "Create shortcut" from the pop up box. It will create the shortcut on your desktop. You can rename this and move it to wherever you like. Your PC will not dial the internet at all unless you click this icon first.

I should just add that when you are in the Network Connections screen, you may see a connection listed that you do not recognise and that appears to have nothing to do with AOL or other provoders. If that's the case, it's probably the dialler. If it's still there after running Adaware, post back with the names of the icons in Network Connections.

You can find out if you have any dialers that have managed to sneak onto your computer at any time go here.
Start>Search>Type in dial*.exe and search in the files and folders box. If you have any dialers it will list them.

    Hi,
    Philnicanamy:
    Many thanks,
I have ADAWARE and it found nothing
Took your advice and changed dial-up to never.
    Dial-ups showing are:
    AOL (default)
    Aol diagnostic test
AOL dial on demand feature - please do not remove
    The internet (1)
I did a search as suggested and the ony 'dialers' shown old , 2 years.
I used to have DIALERWATCH active but disabled it when I went on broadband.
