Unlocking ex-contract phone

My friend has a Nokia 6280 which is due to come out of a contract tomorrow (9.4.2007) What we want to know is can we unlock it from the 3 network so that we can re-use the phone with a different sim-card. If so how? Thanks in advance.

He will have to contact 3 up for the unlocking code, only contact them when the contract has ended as this means the phone is his and not 3's. Tell him to ask for the unlocking code for it, phones that are usually out of contract they will unlock free of charge, if they try to say that they wont unlock it then they are breaking the law as when the contract has finished then the phone is no longer there property.

Whooops, they dont always do it free of charge, it just depends who you get on the day, but with 3 I have noticed that quite a lot will do it free when the contract is up.

he phoned up 3 (without me knowing) told 3 it had finished contract and he still payed £15 to get it unlocked the fool
