I am looking to get rid of my sky+ tv and get a recordable freeview box instead.
I reduced my sky tv package as it was too expensive but then found out that the price of the phoneline is going up. So have decided to get rid although I will still have my phoneline, broadband and calls.
Can anyone recommend a decent recordable box for me please.
I have no idea what to look for or the best make.

Get a Humax Foxsat-HDR, it is around £200 with 500GB Hard Drive, or Humax HDR-1000S for around £270.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Not a problem, you should buy a Humax DTR T1000 if you want terrestrial, or a Humax Foxsat -HDR if you want Freesat. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I really don't understand, so a couple of silly questions...
If I get a HD+ box, do I need to buy a HD tv? My two tv's are really old, those massive silver tv's that weigh a ton.
Also, I will be moving in the next 18 months so next property may not have a dish. Do these boxes need to have a satellite dish?
Thanks0 -
A Freesat box requires a dish, your existing Sky dish will do the job, the box is just a direct swap.
A Freeview box requires a working aerial, usually a rooftop one, not a set top one.
You don't need to have an HD Ready TV, but without it you won't be able to view the HD channels. If you don't want HD, then just get a Humax PVR 9300T, which is a Freeview SD PVR. The Freesat version (Foxsat)comes with an HD tuner as standard.
However if you can live without PVR functions, then you can simply use your existing Sky box as a Freesat From Sky receiver, but the Sky+ functions will cease to operate once you cancel your sub. This is the cheapest option-no cost at all.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thankyou Macman. It was so obvious once I'd read your explanation.
I definitely need the record option. With two young children I never have time to watch anything so record it all throughout the week and watch on a Sunday night when they are in bed.
I think I will keep the sky box for the tv the kids watch their videos on and buy a new box for me.0 -
Then you'll need either a working aerial for Freeview, or extra feeds from the LNB for Freesat-2 feeds are required from the LNB for each PVR.No free lunch, and no free laptop
