    I'd also be looking at Fabias given price is your main priority as prices are normally better due to the Skoda brand not being as desirable as Seat or VW and standard spec levels should be better as well.

    That age Polo (6N if we're being technical) rust like crazy, so buy carefully.

    The 16V ones are good at killing their gearboxes as well.

    Me? Assuming no scary rust - keep the Golf! Chances are it'll outlive most late 90's Polo's.
    Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
    Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?
