I hate paper knickers so bought a dozen pairs of 30p ones from market
Genius Glad.My sister and I were dreading wearing those paper things.I just called her and told her about the cheap knickers idea, and we couldnt stop laughing ,as we both never thought of this:)
Yes we are two sisters due within weeks of each other, there is something in the water around here:rotfl: .Our dad said its the best BOGOF he has ever seen.
All the tips on this thread are brilliant ,thanks ladies:Twhere is Narnia and how do I get there. That wardrobe salesman lied to me:D0 -
Hi
I dont know if anyones mentioned it but i took in some domestos toilet wipes because you can never be too careful especially the way hospitals are at the moment with not enough cleaning staff
Everything else seems to be covered (another fan of face spritz)0 -
I have a toiletries bag packed at all times anyway because since 2001 i have been hospitalised several times, had a stroke, a mystery viral infection, a miscarriage and complications following a d&C. Those things are more likely to take you unawares and even the best man wont put what you want in a washbag!
i would take my own nailbrush! The alc. cleaning gel doesnt kill everything.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but I took in a water spray, it was the Evian one you could use to mist your make-up and set it, but it works great for cooling you down when you're very hot.Spray directly onto skin and fan with a piece of paper for maximum effect. ( I remember being pretty much naked apart from my bra for much of the time, it would have happened sooner if not for the water spray - not a good look waddling through the foyer of the hospital, teehee.)
I was also advised not to wear my good nightdresses, to wear their gowns - put it on backwards so it covers your bum, and you can breastfeed easily too.;) Less washing too.
Take in a big packed lunch too, with lots of high calorie foods. Leading up to labour I wasn't hungry but in the night following having my DD I was ravenous, thankfully my OH hadn't eaten ther lunch we'd taken in for him, so I scoffed it at about 3am, and all the biscuits too. I also had a bottle of squash to add to the hospital water that always seems to end up warm, it makes it easier to drink, and you'll want to be drinking loads (helps feeding, and keeps you hydrated for that first no2!) Sorry if that's too much info!:oMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I took 2 bags in with me, 1 for me and 1 for baby.
I bought some mini/travel size shampoo and conditioners, shower gel, moisturiser to save space in my wash bag.
I'm with the big comfy knickers too, esp as i had an emrgency c-section with DS2, they're a must.
Make sure you have plenty of snacks and drinks and change for the phone.
I packed my bags and unpacked them several times as i was sure i wouldn't need everything that was in them but i did.If everyone cared and nobody cried, if everyone loved and nobody lied, if everyone shared and swallowed their pride then we'd see the day when nobody died.

I had a big holdall, pack of newborn nappies (omg can you all remember babies first poo), 3 of everything for baby.
maternity wear for me ( i knew i wasn't going to get back into normal clothes straight away)
disposable pants (unattractive but very sensible)
sanitary towels
and all the usual things...
Thinking back i would of had these too ....
the air in a can the stuff you can spray over your face,
a flannel so the birthing partner can mop your brow,
a pair of warm socksLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
Remember that now days they don't wash the baby in the first 24 hrs (to stop them getting cold) so the first outfit shouldn't be a posh one, save that for going home in.
Also make sure you show your birthing partner what you want to be the first outfit as the midwife asks them for it to put it on the resusitaire (the thing that is heated to keep the baby warm) to get it nice and toasty for when baby comes out. They usually ask for it about 15 mins before they expect baby, and by that point you won't be in a state to care.
After the baby has crowned you won't be allowed to have a fan on you (and after baby is born) so make sure you have wet cloth or water spray.
Drink plenty of water so if you don't like hospital warm stuff take a bottle (stick one in the freezer that you can grab as you leave so that it is cold for at least a half a day if not more). A lot of hospitals have water coolers on the delivery suite though.0 -
