Sorry to hear of your troubles. Your situation sounds similar to an old colleague of mine: she had to go back to a very basic diet for a few weeks, and then gradually add things in until she found the trigger food.

If you need to avoid gluten, then you also can't eat wholemeal pasta. it may be better for you s you say, but that's because its lower GI & releases energy more slowly, but it still contains gluten. Quinoa is another option- like rice it's gluten free & pretty good for you. use it as you would rice/cous cous/bulgar wheat - that sort of thing

Also, be careful with ready made flavourings & sauces - they're going to be packed with stuff that you can't eat at the moment. if you want a stir fry sauce, try garlic, ginger, soy sauce (check it's gluten free!) & thickened with a tiny bit of cornflour

ETA: sorry, just seen you can't have soy - my apologies

I don't know a lot about vegan foods, I only really think of salads. I know there will be hot meals to eat, are there any websites for recipes?

Hi, If you search for Vegan Forum or The Vegan Society then these a wealth of information on those two sites.

Best of luck with it all. :)

You can find rice pasta in supermarkets and there's usually a "free from" section where they round up all the stuff for people on special diets. Don't forget that wheat, corn and soy products have a variety of names.

I thought the vegan recipe + meat was a cracking idea as it knocks out a good few food groups. If you Google Vegan Society, they have recipes and bookmarks at the side of the site for ones without gluten or soya. No bookmark for nut free though.

You might find this interesting regarding Wheat.

Not sure if I agree with it but nevertheless might help.

the best gluten free pasta I have found is Doves Farm maize and corn pasta. Cooks and tastes just like the real thing.

    just had another idea.
do you have access to a butcher and a greengrocer?
try buying your meat n veg from there. nowhere near a supermarket = less temptation to buy processed food, also if they any good they'll give you ideas as well

dont forget to look at your herb n spice rack to flavour your food and mix it

oh and keep a food diary, write what you have and when and then if you show any symptoms describe them as well. something more concrete to show your gp!

Thank you so much for the replies, I went to the walk centre last night and he told me to stop eating things that could be a trigger, he thought it might be the herbal teas but I had a snack last night and could feel the swelling starting again.

What did you snack on last night?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Does brown pasta have wheat in it? I thought it was better for you?

    !

It's almost entirely wheat (hence being called "wholewheat")

Do you know I read the entire packet of the pasta and was still none the wiser!!! I'm glad I've got you guys!!

I had an aldi style mars thing last night, it had milk, eggs, wheat and soy on the label!
I've shuffled the cupbaords round a bit so I only have to go in one cupboard and I'm not tempted to just open a tin or packet and I have started to go through some cook books. I do have greengrocers and butchers near by but they don't open on Sundays and are closed before I get home.

I need to have a look for breakfast ideas, I've just had a tin of mandarins as it was the only thing I could find.
    In the cupboards I have
    1 tin toms
    4 tins tuna
    2 tins carrots
    2 tins chick peas
1 tin white beans - I don't know anything about these
    Potatoes
    Onions
    Celery
    Peppers
    Lettuce
    cucumber
    Chicken
    Turkey steaks
    Cod
    and possibly pork steaks.

I have been putting together a shopping list and have a few meal ideas which should make left overs too
Sweet potato, spinach and lentil dahl
    Haddock in tomato and basil
    Light ratatouille
    Pumpkin and chick pea curry

They all make 4 servings and would be ok to add meat to, I was going to make a chicken and leek soup aswell. I was just going to make a veg stock, would this be ok?

Then for lunches I was thinking of baking some potatoes and using left overs?
I don't really have much money to spend so was going to try and use as much as I have in, which isn't a great deal really. I have aldi near by so I'm going to head there once I have finalised my list.

Thank you for the links and web suggestions
