Diet help

I've developed an allergy to a food and have been told that if I don't find out what it is the reaction will just keep getting worse until I end up being hospitalised.
I've got to cut things out of my diet and just stick to non processed foods but I'm not too great with vegetables and wouldn't know what to do with quite a few of them, plus the things I can't eat are things that I would use a lot of so a quick meal would be omelette or quiche maybe with cheese or ham, all of which would be banned.

I just wondered if anyone has some good recipes that doesn't include; Dairy, soy, eggs, shellfish, wheat, gluten, corn, coffee, sugar and sweeteners, processed meat and nuts. I've read different things about red meat but I don't eat a lot of it anyway.
I can eat, white meat, brown rice and pastas and vegetables and fruits

I'm house sitting this week so it's a good time to start, just until I can speak to my usual doc, plus I don't want to get a serious reaction when I'm on my own.
I've never really had any food reactions before and it's been quite scary this week! Any help will be much appreciated, I tried searching for different things but nothing much has come up and I figured you OSers would be able to help me

If you can't have wheat, how can you have pasta?

Stir fried veg (peppers, mushrooms, spring onion, bean sprouts, carrot and courgette with garlic, chilli and ginger (or other flavourings)) with chicken.

Veggie or chicken biriyani (rice dish with veg curry on the side)

Salads with oil and lemon juice dressing

Can you have fish? That opens up a lot of options if you can.

Gosh - if it's that much of a problem why aren't they doing a skin test to find out what you are allergic to? I can totally empathise, I have had food allergies all my life which is fine but in the summer I suddenly developed an allergy to ibuprofen (very, very nearly died) and it was pretty scary not knowing what had caused the reaction. Have you been told to follow this diet by a doctor? (Just wondering because you say you have 'read' different things about red meat). Surely just cutting a load of things out isn't going to actually pinpoint what you are allergic to? Plus that doesn't deal with the possibility that it could be a non food item...

Anyway, it sounds to me as though you are going to need to stick with simple old fashioned meals of meat (chicken, pork?), potatoes/rice and vegetables. Hopefully this will be a short term thing? Good luck, I hope they figure it out.
  • If you cut all those things out then how will you know what IS having an effect?

Why aren't they doing tests to find out what is it?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • There are plenty of good recipes out there. So you shouldn't have any problem. Just google it.

Try searching for vegan recipes - you can always add a portion of chicken or fish to bulk it out seeing as you can eat those things!

Oh how scary, I have a friend who is seriously allergic to sulphates which is a preservative in most food! To the point that she carries an epi pen with her!

You haven't said if this is medical advice u following so I would suggest you get your GP to organise appoints with allergy clinic and perhaps a dietician? It may be u''ve already done that and are on a restriction diet and have to slowly reintroduce foods and see their reaction?

My suggestions to you would be to write a list of food you can eat in full then work

from that. It will mean cooking from scratch but if u can cook then the foods u eat will be tasty! My friend eats well even if she has to plan it a bit better

It will take time. Can u use stock? If so what about chicken n rice soup? or a veg soup? MInestrone? U could even make your own stock! hmmm I must be In the mood for soup Its all I can thInk of! What roast chicken potatoes n root veg?
Think of what u ate as a kid, maybe even what your gran made, keep it simple, and most of all try not to worry

    Good luck!

Thank you so much for the replies, I went to the walk centre last night and he told me to stop eating things that could be a trigger, he thought it might be the herbal teas but I had a snack last night and could feel the swelling starting again. I want to get stocked up and plan today as I won't have time in the week and cut things out now just until I can see my usual doctor and talk to him properly, as he has put me on strong anti histamines so really I shouldn't be having any reactions.

It is short term, I need to stop the reaction from happening then once my body is calmer I can start eating again. I am an ok cook but a lot of the things I can eat I only really know one or two recipes and most contain things I can't eat.

I can have fish, I am hoping that tinned fish will be ok as I think there is tuna and salmon in, I'm going to check labels shortly.

I was thinking roasted sweet potato with a filling. Stuffed butternut squash, I don't know with what though. I was going to make some stock up and do a soup, then I'd also have chicken to eat. I think it is something I eat regularly but that could be dairy, wheat, soy so I just want to stay away from anything that isn't 100% made by me.

Does brown pasta have wheat in it? I thought it was better for you?

I don't know a lot about vegan foods, I only really think of salads. I know there will be hot meals to eat, are there any websites for recipes?

Thank you for you replies, is it ok if I put a menu together and post it back here? I know there are quite a few of you that know about vitamins and minerals, I don't want to miss out on anything important and start a new set of problems!
