Most Patronising UK Company?

My fiance and I went to do some Christmas shopping today. He wanted to get a next gift card for my mum so he walked up to the counter whilst I was looking at the clothing. I joined him shortly after. He spoke to the cashier, she "replied" to me, she didn't even look at him. I didn't speak to the cashier at all, apart from to say "thank you" as we left. I thought that was disgusting. I wasn't paying or anything!

Personally, I think the OP is very rude at how they handled the situation. There is no need to be impolite to a member of staff, they are doing their job how they have been trained!
I was asked by the same woman, twice in HMV if I needed any help. The first time, I replied "no thank you, I'm being helped" the second time, she asked and I said "no thank you, we're just browsing" and we laughed with her that she had already asked us beforehand.

They aren't trying to wind you up!! Be polite as they have been to you.

Given the current state of retail companies, think Comet, do you think it is a good idea to buy a gift card from anyone?

I will never buy a gift card/voucher again and when someone suggests that they might give me one I tell them I don't want it as it might be worthless before I can spend it.
