Postage timing... still not recieved?

Options
i bought an item on the 27th of october. seller apparently sent on the 28th.

she sent it 2nd class post, only a small item that will fit in a small envelope.

i've still not received it and its been over a week now...

contacted her and she told me 'it was dispatched on 28th by 2nd class delivery which can take 2-5 working days, sometimes more, sometimes less'.

she told me to contact her on monday if the item still hasent arrived.

would you just wait until monday?

Today is 6 October...do you mean September?
  • Yes, give her until Monday. Face it, it's not going to magically arrive tomorrow so no point chasing it now as she can't do anything but may as well wait until the Monday post has been and gone and you've given it more than enough time.
Just a thought, you could try contacting your own sorting office to see if they have it. even though it is a small item, if it's over the width/weight for a standard stamp, it might have some money owed on it so have been held up in the delivery office.

A week is not unusual for post on occasions, as per Mindless- check with your own delivery office and then maybe contact seller tomorrow after you have done that.

  • Sorry yeah I mean October (I'm stuck in September for some reason!)

The item really isnt going to weigh much, it would be about the weight of a birthday card, if that.

Ok, shall see if it comes tomorrow and then contact my delivery office. Thanks :)

2nd Class is appallingly slow and is a lot slower than it used to be.

Royal Mail do this deliberately now, to discourage use of 2nd Class and to maximise their profits by driving people towards 1st Class.

I don't believe that is true at all.

I only use 2nd class for ebay and I know for certain that at least half gets there next day as that's how much feedback is left instantly for me. Since some people leave feedback a little later once they have a chance to open and check the item thoroughly, and some leave no feedback at all- I suspect virtually all my 2nd class gets there within a day of posting.

However, it does seem that if it doesn't arrive next day then it can take days- there is nothing in between .

I send a great deal of post 2nd class to places not connected to ebay- and once again virtually all of it gets there next day.

I use 2nd now to keep postage costs down and haven't had a problem, either on Amazon or eBay. Since the restructuring of costs I take full advantage of the small packet rate and it works really well for a bookseller rather than having to weigh each individual item. I've found even some hardbacks go at this rate.

Delays do happen with 2nd class and it is a tad slower than first but then if someone gets something out promptly there should be no material difference.

If something hasn't arrived in a week I do get in touch with the seller but would only take it further if it still hadn't been delivered a week or so later (two weeks after payment). I normally ask something like 'hi, did you get my payment OK for [item]? Could you please let me know if you have posted it?' and they quite often respond 'woops sorry forgot it's in the post now'... (nothing like being honest) ... and it usually turns up quickly, no worries.

Not going to get full marks but no low scoring.

I'll third that. :) I know whenever anything is marked dispatched to me it almost always arrives within 1 - 3 days regardless of whether it's 1st or 2nd class.
I posted 3 items a few weeks ago, one went 1st class and the other two went 2nd. One 2nd class arrived next day, the 1st class the day after and the other 2nd class arrived after 4 days.
I don't find it any faster or slower but, as Soolin says, it does seem to be all or nothing and I suspect some of it depends on where it's been sent from and to.

That's how I feel too. I have taken to listing things with a 3 day dispatch and posting them next day/ as soon as paid which, essentially, means that if there's a delay with postage I've offset it by getting it out sooner than anticipated. I don't sell loads but so far so good; everything has made it inside a week.

I wait until after the last day it says it should be delivered then check post office and then contact seller.
Oddly enough, I've have 2 items not received in the last few weeks - one I suspect wasn't sent until I "reminded" seller (even though they say it was sent 2 days after payment - truth will tell with the post mark) because they hadn't marked it dispatched, and the other I'm going to have to take to INR, by the looks of it because it's been nearly 2 weeks.

For me there's little point in checking the post office.

If something is RD it gets put with the ordinary post and just delivered without a signature.

If something is too large for the letterbox then it gets left in the porch or on the doorstep. We live in a fairly remote house - set back from the road in a quiet village - so it's not likely to go walkabout.

Most ordinary items should be there within the week if they have been posted promptly. eBay's dispatch estimate is generous - I don't blame them but equally I normally get things within the week, so the few times this hasn't happened I've usually got in touch sooner. The dispatch estimate prevents disputes being opened too quickly, and I don't worry for a week, but with a lot of things, the speed in which things come mean that that's generous in itself - and you've seen the question I ask, I don't really expect delivery, rather dispatch and a delivery estimate.

Personally I state two days dispatch but always post as soon as I get paid, either same day if possible (and it often is on Amazon) or next day. I feel very strongly that anything more is unfair to the person paying for something. If people can't hold to that sort of thing then it is unlikely to be efficient for them to sell and with the two big sites tightening things up (eBay now class anything over three days' dispatch as 'exceptional', and Amazon have always been strict) it's not going to get better.

People are whining on the official forums about sellers being held to account but inefficiency puts people off buying on these sites just as much as outright scams do, if they can get things sent much more promptly elsewhere their competitiveness is going to suffer, and it all rebounds on eBay and the people who sell who do manage to maintain their accounts in good standing. If they are not careful they will end up with eBay going so far the other way no-one bothers to buy there any more.

There might be if it's been sent as a letter but is in fact a large letter. It could well be at the sorting office waiting for the excess postage to be paid. A card should have been left by the postman but sometimes they are not left or get thrown away with junk mail.
