Codicils to the will or just a "please give" list?

That's basically all that happens at the Probate Office, but they do it free; I guess a solicitor will charge?
a) Won't charge a penny
b) Charge a much lower fee than normal
(The latter has happened to me in the past, but for a different legal matter.)
Another thing to bear in mind is: how far are you from the Probate Office and would it be cheaper to pay a local solicitor to witness?
Many solicitors will witness an official document for a low cost - for example, in my area, there are several solicitors who will witness statutory declarations for £5.0 -
I think all the "multi-quotes got the better of me in my last reply!
We (DH and I) made our wills when we married, and have reviewed them regularly. The last time was around 3 years ago. They take account of any issues that might result from over 18s not being responsible enough to inherit large amounts of money.
Mothsballs - there is a fixed fee for swearing the oath for Probate, which comes to £7. (£5 for one bit, £2 for the other bit.) I was lucky enough to find someone willing to spend 10 minutes in my company to do that for such a ridiculously small amount. Apparently the fee hasn't been reviewed for at least 20 years!0
