Is there anyway to know if a house still has solid fuel from the outside

Was just wondering it's possible, in a built up area, to know if a house is burning coal or solid fuel, for example by whether or not the chimney has a metal cowl? A chimney sweep friend is pondering where to advertise with flyers and is looking a quick way.

If your friend does not already know the answer to your question, then I would be reluctant to use his/her services!
I would recommend finding a village some distance away, and putting up a big advert in the village shop stating the day on which you will be in attendance, and offering a temptingly low price.
By the end of the day, you will know for certain whether or not chimney-sweeping is the career for you...0 -
