Batiste Dry Shampoo problems!!!

Hi Guys
I have been using this product (batiste dry shampoo) for about 4 months, its very good if your on the go and dont have the time to wash and dry your hair however after using it every week or so (sometimes every other day if i have a busy week) i have started to notice my hair is falling out. Not drastically but still falling out, its thinner and the areas it seems to be thinner is where the product was used (around the forehead and top of head)
I have since researched this product as it DOES NOT state anywhere on its packaging that you should not use weekly etc. It does not give you any idea of how often you can use this product which really concerns me. I have always had lovely, healthy and fairly thick hair. Now it's thin and falls out easily when showering.
Apparently a few websites (health related websites) say that if used frequently this kind of product can impact on hair loss as the ingredients used to make it can leave fatty acids on your scalp resulting in slow hair loss. This is very worrying to me.
What should i do? Of course i have stopped using the product but i feel that the company should have some sort of notice on their labelling/packaging with user instructions which it doesnt??
Has anyone else suffered with this problem?
Will never use the stuff again.

Oh God I've never heard this before!
I have no advice but I think I'll cut down on my use, I use it a lot when I'm up late for lectures etc.. :silenced::heartsmil

That's scary! I use it I would say 1-2 times a week to freshen my hair if it's almost needing a wash but I don't have time (prefer laying in my warm bed! :rotfl: ) I think looking back I have more of a dryer scalp than usual and I do lose a lot of hairs as a matter of course - but then I always have been a "moulter" because I do fiddle with my hair all the time.
I might cut back (and get up earlier!) and see if that makes a difference.

There are a lot of cranky 'health' websites out there, is there any scientific evidence for these claims?
Batiste is mainly starch which is found in food. Maybe you are spraying too close to the head, using too much, not wiping away the excess properly, you are allergic to an ingredient, maybe there is residue in combination with other products in your routine?
Try cutting out the dry shampoo and any shampoo based on sulphate surfactants - most of them - these are proven to contribute to hair loss in susceptible individuals.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
I agree above, you're either allergic to ingredients or using it too close to your hair.
Is it just in the places you use your dry shampoo that your hair is thinning, because thinning hair can be a sign of other problems, like bad diet, thyroid problems.etc If the thinning continues now you've stopped using the product, I'd suggest speak to the doctor.0 -
I use it every other day & have for a few years so I don't think the product is the problem. May be worth a trip to the docs? Good luck!CC1 - [STRIKE]£8746[/STRIKE] £2801 71%

I use it all the time, often 3 or 4 days in a row and don't have a problem.
Could it be stress? Anaemia?
I lose a lot of hair normally anyway because I don't eat red meat, but it definitely hasn't got worse since using Batiste0 -
I notice when I use Baptise (about once a month when I leave it too late to wash my hair when showering for example) I have to wash my hair twice the next time just to get out the residue it leaves and then I still find my hair feels quite brittle and has lost its softness (but it does stay straighter for longer!) But when brushing my hair I lose far more strands then normal and also find its not as easy to brush meaning I'm having to yank the brush through my hair much more which further adds to the losing hair problem.
Look, I don't have the answers but I do have a theory. When you apply Baptise, it dries out your hair with the alcohol and the starch in the product. I think if the product coats your hair and you cannot wash it off easily, it stays in your hair. This not only further dries out your hair when your hair produces any oils, but it also prevents your hair absorbing as much/any moisture from the atmosphere.
We forget that although hair is dead, what gives it its bounce and soft texture comes partly from the moisture it manages to hold on to.
I wont stop using Baptise because it does serve a purpose, but I think if I were to use it more frequently I'd expect to lose more hair and the condition would become much more brittle and drier. This may not be the same experience as others but it is mine.0 -
Hi Eloise, I couldn't believe my luck when I first found out about Baptiste, even my hairdresser was singing its praises.
But recently I noticed that my hair had thinned all over, and its condition is awful. The thinning is worse where I sprayed the dry shampoo more.
At first I wasn't sure why my hair was thinning, so I had all the blood tests done, Iron, Thyroid, Testosterone levels, hormones etc and they all came back entirely normal.
And then I came across something on the internet by chance where the person said that dry shampoo had thinned her hair a lot. So I put 2 and 2 together and although I am not 100% sure it's due to Baptiste, I have a pretty good idea. I stopped using the stuff altogether (that's only since about a week or so ago) and started using a different shampoo (Aveda Invati) which is supposed to help with hairloss, by exfoliating the scalp.
I have been using the shampoo for about a month now, and I don't know if it's making a difference, I have noticed tiny little hairs growing back along the hairline, but obviously, since I was still using Baptiste at the same time, it was the case of going one step forward and 2 steps back.
Admittedly, I was using Baptiste far too often, on the second day after washing my hair, and then every day after that until my next hair wash which sometimes wasn't until a week later. Sometimes when the whole hair looked greasy, I would spray it on the whole head.
I am a bit worried that my hair will never be the same again. It has caused me a lot of distress so I sympathise.0 -

I don't get any residue or dryness from Batiste nor do I have any trouble removing it with either a very gentle shampoo or (more often) conditioner-only washing. I spray it in, wipe out the excess with a soft microfibre towel leaving shiny bouncy hair. I rather suspect the problem you are having is a combination of the dry shampoo with residues of the conditioners or styling products you are using, perhaps silicones or polyquats. These are loaded into many products to give faux shine, slip and softness, to make hair look and feel healthy when it is actually damaged. I do not use any of these and have much healthier hair as a result.
The water in hair is held in the shaft protected by the cuticle, water entering and exiting the hair is actually really damaging (hygral fatigue), so you do not want hair to absorb water from the atmosphere. Healthy hair is naturally water repellent due to the fatty acids 'glueing' the cuticle and structural proteins together, think how feathers and animal fur are. This is what gives healthy undamaged hair bounce, shine and texture not water - unfortunately these fatty acids are stripped away by chemical treatments, anionic shampoos and styling. Dry shampoo should only be affecting the surface of the hair, it should not be having any effect on the water content of the core nor should it be stripping away any of the structural fatty acids since these are chemically bonded to the structural proteins.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Have only been using Batiste for a few months, usually about 3 times a week, but haven't had any problems at all. I would have hair 'fall out' when I'm showering anyway - that's the norm. Don't find my hair any drier. And don't find myself using excess amounts of shampoo just to wash it out. I only ever use shampoo and conditioner on my hair, and no other products.Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0
