Nice topped with stilton aswell as the garlic butter.
I am a fan of Linda Mc sausages as they aren't meaty whereas my DP prefers the Quorn type sausages. I always make sure I have some nice relish, homemade coleslaw and new spuds with butter/chives.Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0 -
Hi Guys
desperate for some help please. I am going to a BBQ later and need to take some veggie food. Don't want to buy anything, so am resorting to store cuboard challenge.
I have potatoes, onions, carotts, polenta, pasta, quinoa, tomatoes (tinned and fresh)
Ideas greatly received!! I will check and see if there is anything else in the cupboard.
Thanks

We used to wrap the spuds in foil and put them in the fire once it had died down a bit. The potatoes/onions/carrots can make a nice potato salad (recipes abound online to just google it). You could also make a pasta salad. You could also make this polenta bread: http://www.vegsoc.org.au/recipe_details.asp?RecipeID=203 and instead of toasting put it on the BBQ for a bit before serving.

thanks for the suggestions! I went for pizza, I know not very BBQ like, but based on what I had in the house I thought the best option!!0

Hello, its getting to the BBQ time of the year and last year I had a few problems with my BBQ, firstly I set it up a little close to the fence and had a bit of trouble with that, the other problem was I bought some Linda McCartney (god bless her) Sausages and Burgers but they come out tasting like smoked cheese? The other thing is i'm on my own (I do have some friends but they are mainly from my counciling group and not really good around an open fire) so buying packs doesn't really work out very good money saving, and if I don't have a BBQ I kinda feel left out and that makes my depression worse. What I need is something quite meaty but obviously not with any meat in, when not BBQ'ing I try and make a variety of soups and stews, carrot and coriander is a favourite and so is leek and potato , but obviously they are no good on the BBQ!!!
I hope somebody can help me please.

Linda McCartney stuff is disgusting no matter how it's cooked (imho!) Have you tried the Fry's frozen burgers? You can get them in Holland and Barrett. Have you tried making veggie kebabs? Small onions (or chunks of bigger ones) chunks of pepper, mushrooms, courgettes, veggie sausages cut up, then use a bottled marinade (or make your own). They cook well and taste nice. Also a little goes a long way I find, so you don't really need too many veggies. Or you could chop up veggies into reasonable sizes, mix in a little oil, then wrap up in foil and stick them on to roast. Potatoes baked in the embers (they need to go at the edge, not right in the middle, and not on the rack or they take too long). Bananas, split the skin, stuff in a couple of pieces of chocolate, wrap up in foil and bake.
My hubby is a South African so likes braaing (it's a national institution over there!) so we are going to have to start thinking about it ourselves soon!0 -
Hi Frank,
We have an older thread that should give you some ideas so I'll merge your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

I do these mushrooms with the garlic, cheese and I also add some chilli too. Wrap well in foil and cook on the side of the bbq until you can smell the garlic butter and chilli. About 10-20 mins depending on how hot the coals are. Serve in fresh buns with crisp salad and caramalised red onion relish.
The kids eat these more than the meat.
How about baby veg marinated in olive oil, salt, pepper, chilli, garlic, balsamic vinegar then roasted. Serve with a variety of dipping sauces or in pitta breads topped with tahini sauce
Another one for pud is pineapple, papaya, banana, grapes (anything chunky really) put onto skewers and roasted on the bbq. Serve drizzled with melted dark chocolate. Really messy but ultimately yummyLightbulb moment 2/1/07First Direct £2500 loan
