Good luck for the interview next week. My advice on handling that well is to research as much as you can about the company and what they do. Focus on your experience and what you can bring to the job and offer them. If your commute involves driving to your place of work then look into the different routes you could take. I always hire a cab firm in such instances and get them to show me all alternate routes if I dont know an area really well. Money well spent in the long term.

As for general socialising I find that taking an interest in others and asking them questions about themselves is a great ice breaker. With any luck you may find common interests and then conversation can flow.

I think telephone calls are a tricky one to feel confidant about. There is the worry that things can be taken wrongly without the benefit of seeing someones face. Stay polite, helpful and the main secret is to listen really well and to confirm things so the other person knows you are on the ball and understanding them. If you dont know what is being asked then say you will look into it and come back to them. Confirm a time frame and check their number and call back by when has been agreed. That could take off some pressure.

I attended a self-esteem course a few years back and it was really useful. Helped me have a different perspective and was a real confidence booster.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
