Oh fairly jealous!!!!!
Love it, me mum came from perthshire, beautiful, wonderful people. You can't beat a good scottish wedding, brought up with it. Such fond memories. Gay Gordons and Strip the Willow - yep I think im up for that now!!!!
I spent most of my life in Argyll AlfieBlue so those are the only kind of dances I can do :rotfl:
Am thinking the old legs will be protesting a bit tomorrow mind.
Callander was lovely this morning, so quiet and peaceful and saw a beautiful sunrise from the room when we got up.0 -
Loving the Spurtle memories - a few years ago I worked in the gift shop of a fairly well know castle and we sold those. Tourists not from Scotland, particularly Americans were quite fascinated by them and always asked what they were for. My colleague and I did tell them they were for stirring your porridge but sometimes we were a bit naughty and gave them a Gaelic name which translated to B*m scratcher :rotfl:Well we found it amusing
Lol you wee devil!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Never thought of my spurtle as a b*m scratcher :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. May look at it in a different light when i use it to stir me porridge in the stark light of the morning!!Love your humour, made me laugh!!! Alf xxxx

alfie, bet you can't wait to get out in the car :j:j
will be great for you
love the magic porridge stirring stick description:rotfl::T
my grandma had one for years but i don't know where it ended up
might treat us to one now you've remined me about them :j
the spurtle is a traditional Scottish stir stick that dates from the 16th century.
The original spurtles (also spelled "spirtle") may have simply been small branches with the bark removed.
Typically used for stirring porridge, where its small-diameter shaft easily cuts through the thick material to keep lumps
to a minimum,
it is equally useful for stirring thick sauces, soups or stews :j
sounds like you had a brilliant time ellemm :j:j
hiya katie  have fun at karioke tonight :j
Yep!! Thats a good pic FF of the spurtle - mine has a thistle engraved on the top. It's old, but like me, has its uses :rotfl::rotfl: xxxxxx

Thanks for the picture Firefly I understand now what you mean. Never seen one though but sounds good.
Well done on the lottery win PMS
Wingo glad you are feeling better. My DD used to be like that in the shops. We put it down to the florescent lights as it always started in the big stores.
Hope you have a good night Katie.

PMS is in the
I've got a disney character back-scratcher but much better if somebody else does it for you. (when they do it makes you itch more!)
PMS, SNAP!- I saw two films today courtesy of o2 Priority Moments. I got each ticket from a different tranche. (normally you can only apply once with one allocation) My Hotdog/drink was free too via the premiere club points.
Quartet - So very brilliant, funny, emotional with great acting.
The Hobbit - Hard to get into, so many characters and so long winded. A laugh and some good scenery. Odd ending, is there a sequel coming?

I don't know if I could sit through another two long Hobbit films. (this time I didn't get the urge to skip to the loo loo but that's the danger of a long film!!!!)
Anybody else seen Quartet? (or planning to see?)

Good Morning,
Monday again - the weeks are flying in!
Well have got DS2 home for a few days but him and DS3 were up half the night and woke me up and I couldn't get back to sleep so I feel rotten now. DD back to school tomorrow so that will be fun trying to get her up in time.
Got my new TV yesterday - decided it wasn't worth the extra money to buy a Toshiba as the last one only lasted 3 and a half years and we really don't use them that much. Just bought a 32" Bush from Argos for £199 and it is a perfect picture. Don't know if anyone understands the difference but I got a LED instead of a LCD as that is supposed to be better????
Anyway, lots of luck everyone,
sheils xMar Wins :- £2 GfK Media
Best Win of 2019 - Forest Holiday0 -
Morning everyone
Back to normal for us so there'll be tears and tantrums later after school!
Glad you got your son home and your new tv Sheils : ) yes I've heard the LED tv's have millions of little pixels which give a better picture performance than LED. The one I won is an LED and whenever we watch a DVD, we can see the difference...especially with a Blu ray player
I haven't seen the Hobbit ILC but son has and is pestering us to go watch it in 3D as he wants to see it again. Thing is he will be telling us what happens through it! I couldn't afford to take us all to watch in 3D anyway! Quite fancy watching Impossible though, on my own.
Hope we all have some wins today and big hugs to anyone who needs one today xxBig thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!0
