Hi everyone, just trying to catch up with all your posts since yesterday-not like me to be offline for over 24 hours!

Had a lovely time at OH's nephew's wedding in Perthshire. Beautiful country house hotel, fab food and great company, even managed a wee dance or two - Gay Gordons and Strip the Willow, essential at a Scottish wedding :D all rounded off of course with Auld Lang Syne and the Runrig version of Loch Lomond.

All the company looking smart, the men mostly in kilts and the ladies in their posh frocks and peerie heels.

OH still in a lot of pain from his knee op so he went upstairs early- did think maybe I should join him....so should I stay in the room and watch him watching darts on the telly or go back down to the party???? Yep left him to it :rotfl:

Enjoy the rest of the day folks, think I might have a wee lie down, not used to late nights ;)

Oh fairly jealous!!!!! :) Love it, me mum came from perthshire, beautiful, wonderful people. You can't beat a good scottish wedding, brought up with it. Such fond memories. Gay Gordons and Strip the Willow - yep I think im up for that now!!!! :D

Sylvia - yes the spurtle is a sort of wooden thing, long and narrow lol, sort of a shaped stick thing !!! my description isn't that good. :o Mine has carving at the top and is years old but still in in fine fettle!! Fab for stirring porridge, I use it all the time. On the hob porridge or even microwave, I still use it. It's my magic porridge stirring stick lol!!! :rotfl::rotfl: :D xxxxx

the spurtle is a traditional Scottish stir stick that dates from the 16th century.
The original spurtles (also spelled "spirtle") may have simply been small branches with the bark removed.
Typically used for stirring porridge, where its small-diameter shaft easily cuts through the thick material to keep lumps
    to a minimum,
it is equally useful for stirring thick sauces, soups or stews :j

sounds like you had a brilliant time ellemm :j:j

hiya katie  have fun at karioke tonight :j

It's gone now thanks fire**fly, it's just when I go shopping, brings on migraines! Probably because DD spent 2hrs looking round Primark and trying clothes on! :o still....she was happy :)

Ive seen the pics of those spurtles :) its funny how traditional things seem the best, they don't make things to last nowadays!

Alfie....glad you've got someone to do your pruning ;) gives you more time to do writing :) enjoy your car, stay safe!

Going to bingo with sis tonight. Not a night out but it gets me out the house a few hours!

Loving the Spurtle memories - a few years ago I worked in the gift shop of a fairly well know castle and we sold those. Tourists not from Scotland, particularly Americans were quite fascinated by them and always asked what they were for. My colleague and I did tell them they were for stirring your porridge but sometimes we were a bit naughty and gave them a Gaelic name which translated to B*m scratcher :rotfl:Well we found it amusing :o
