BT Infinity white box?

Hi
My brother has just had infinity installed and i noticed that there is a white box connected by cable to the master socket then another cable going to the black router. The white box looks like another router and has adsl phone and ethernet connections.My brother knows nothing about it.

Love the way they say "cabling installed up to 1.5m by BT Engineer"..when it's a ready made cable supplied with the router/VDSL modem.Takes 10 seconds to plug in at both ends....0
