People will have to return to the high street brokers to get their insurance, however they will probably hit the same problem. The company want the insurance of pulling the owed money from somewhere if somebody defaults etc.
It could be a whole new underclass. People who are unable to get insurance because they can not fund the initial payment on a card in their own name.
The first payment would be done in cash.
Then the policy owner would have to prove they had an account by showing a bank statement and a cash card for the account plus additional ID.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

My other half got charged £62 by Endsleigh to close down his policy.0

My bank(natwest) refuse to help arrange a chargeback and endsliegh insurance have not even bothered to call me back. I am still out of pocket.Love can tame the wildest0 -
I would have thought that is a breach of FSA rules regarding chargebacks by Nat West and would lodge a complaint with the Ombudsman, Nationwide didnt respond to my request for a chargeback until they got my complaint from the Ombudsman.0

Your friend has no doubt done the classic and just cancelled their DD with Endsleigh and not bothered to communicate this to them. They will have sent out correspondence to your friend, warning them of impending card debits. Of course, your friend will say they did not receive that letter/email.
As Endsleigh have not heard back they have just debited the original card details they have had, irrelevant of whose they are.
At the end of the day, it is your friend that has caused the root of the problem here by lack of communication and defaulting on their direct debit arrangement.
It still sucks for you though.
I learnt a similar lesson a few years ago, but it cost me over £900. I never saw my 'friend' again.0
