HELP with my boiler!
Hi there!
I have moved into this flat with a boiler which is Performa 28-type. I'm currently paying my gas & electricity with British Gas and i just fear that with the incorrect settings i might be paying loads.
What i can tell you is the dialer on the left side is set to the symbol of the tap & radiator. On the left is the timer-dialer where i have told my my estate agent to set it to 7pm-6am wherein i am mostly indoors and needed the heating. The boiler is turned on 24 hours a day in case i needed the tap or the shower in the daytime.
Are those settings correct? Any advice please?

Carefully monitor the pressure gauge and make sure it does not fall below 1bar. If it does you will need to let a little more water in the system using the filling loop.
Find and set your room thermostat to a comfortable temperature say 19 - 20 degrees.
Set the timer to call for heat say a hour before you come in, and to switch off an hour before you go to bed.
Most people will have the heating on in the a.m. so the home is warm when you get up.
Since its a combination boiler it needs to be powered all the time so it will fire when you want hot water. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Does it need to be turned on all day and all the time? As i heard if i manually turn it off (say in the morning) then turn it on in the evening someone told me that i am actually using more electricity/heating more.0

Whenever you have the boiler on and the 'stat is calling for heat, then it will be burning gas and costing you money. Keeping the heating on permanently just to 'top up' will cost you much more. Would you keep your kettle boiling 24/7 just in case you wanted some hot water?
It uses only a tiny amount of electrcity in standby to power the circuitry. If you switch off the power then the timeclock will cease to operate and the boiler will not light when you call for hot water by turning on a hot tap.
You don't need the heating on all night unless you have a medical issue. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Was told by British Gas that it is "Ok" to keep the boiler turned on 24/7 as they said turning it on/off whenever you need it actually "uses" much electricity. True or False?
And i noticed that when i programmed it to turn on my heating in the rooms & toilet from 7pm to 7 am i noticed around 06.30AM the heating is already turned off. This is odd.0 -
What exactly do you mean by 'turned on'? Do you mean the electrical supply to it switched on, or the boiler on for heating. If the latter, your gas bill will soar.
If the former, I've already answered your question in my first post. Powering it 24/7 uses more electricity, but the amount is marginal, since it's a gas boiler.
Finally, if you have the heating on all night (totally unnecessary) then at 7am it will probably already be at the temp preset on the 'stat and so will not be calling for heat-if that is what you mean by 'turned off'.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Gino, try re reading my earlier post. You are making less sense with each subsequent posting. Do you have someone who could visit your home and explain the system to you? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Like your estate agent maybe-he seems very obliging if he'll set the programmer? Will he run the bath too?No free lunch, and no free laptop

What i mean is my boiler is switched on for 24/7, is set for the symbol of the tap and radiator all the time and i have "programmed" the radiator heating to turn on (or be on) from 7pm till 7am but i manually turn on the wall radiators anyway i.e. the switches on the side that says 0-6.0

I'm beginning to think there are more problems here than the central heating.
Gino why do you want your heating to the running in the middle of the night?
Do you understand the purpose of a thermostatic radiator valve (TRV)?That gum you like is coming back in style.0
