    You need to register for additional retail cards aswell? That defeats the objective of having one card (NUS) for the discount. NUS should really clamp down on retailers forcing customers to register for their own cards, as its understandable we'll get far too many cards!

    I've had the same problem with HMV and Waterstones - what a pain!

    gutted - boethered to buy my card just tried to order online at hmv and they want me to actually go into store and register for a hmv stduent discount card - what a pain. Local swim baths would not accept student card as valid proof of being a student either.

    yeh i had the other day with HMV, i need to go in there sometime to sort it out

    HMV were the best out of all of them you just need to ask for a card they don't need any details from you. All the others made me complete a form with all my details which lead to me holding up the queue.

    Thats because you don't need an extra card to get discount with HMV anymore. If you just go into the store with your normal Uni ID they will give you a discount card which you can use online or instore.

    How are we meant to know these things though, if we aren't told? I've read that dominos, somerfield and loads of other places do student discounts too - isn't there a comprehensive list somewhere?

    Not sure if this helps but I have a Young Persons rail card from my Natwest Student account and it says on the back 10% discount at Waterstones.

    You can claim a student discount if you enter the word Coventry on the basket page of your order, and quote your NUS number, if you buy a pair of prescription spectacles from Fashion Specs Direct

    This student discount is valid until the end of the academic year.
