Phones4you Shop In Midlands - Cashback

Hi there - I wonder if anyone has any knowledge of the cashback deal with Phones4You? I am not very well up on these things ... and just popped into this shop today - I was told by a very nice (not at all pushy) young man that I could have this deal with Orange (I want orange) - Racoon - for £25 per month tops - then they (??) will give me back 2 lots of £75 pounds - they text me to remind me when to do it ..... and also I get a new phone and also some cash back immed I sign up - and it is only a 12 month contract! So the whole thing works out at about £12 a month - which sounds absolutely fab! But has anybody out there actually done this with them and had the money back on time - if at all?? I feel very dubious about this type of scheme now, having read various horror stories on this chat site! Many thanks for any advice.

P4U usually do such deals. Make sure you have a written contract of the cash backs before you sign up! Also I wouldn't rely on the text reminders as I have never received any texts from all the companies who claim that they'll text to remind when I am due to claim a CB.

What phone are they offering you?

If it's £12 is a great offer! i'd go for it making sure you've read all the terms and conditions attached with the deal!

    Hope this helps!

It would be based around a chequeback redemption deal where you claim your money back. Wouldn't rely on the sales person to text you back though as there is no automated system in place, so chances are he would forget/not be at phones4u when the time comes. Cheap deal though so worth considering.
  • Hi - I have just posted the same message cos I could not find this one - was looking for my name!! Sorry chaps! Thanks for replying. Well, the deal was this. Raccoon - 12 months - not brilliant minutes or texts but enough for my use. Sales person said he would give me £75 back immed. Then 2 cheques spanning 6 months for 75 pounds each. And he would text me (!!) I asked if I could have a nice phone .... a Nokia would be good - only cos I know then, they said ok - but then they showed me one that was pink(!!) and it was called Chocolate?? Cant remember the other ones they showed me. I ahve to say, the guy was not at all pushy and I quite liked him. He wrote out on a card that he would give me 75 immed. I have a vigin sim only deal at present - £15 but the cover is dreadful in my area. I am using my old Orange Nokia phone (after it was unlocked). So do you think Phones4 You pay up? Cant see how they make any money if they do?? Thanks for help - any more appreciated.

Pink Chocolate is a LG handset and not a Nokia.

Chances are he will not text you - most likely he'll forget or quit/be transferred to a different store. Sales people at Phones 4 U will say pretty much anything to get the sale in 90% of the time.

Phones 4 U will pay redemption cheques but there are strict criteria in doing so - mainly you need to claim within 30days of the redemption date. If you fail to do so, not only will you not get the money for that particular claim - you lose out on the subsequent claims as well.

Btw the contract is a 18 month contract and the only phones you can choose from (as far as I'm aware) are LG Chocolate/Samsung E900/Samsung X830/Motorola K1. Think Samsung D900 has been added to the list recently - I'd go with that one out the lot personally. However, these handsets are clearance handsets so the list is subject to change - sometimes after a couple of days, depending on stock levels.

They make their money - don't worry ;)

  • Dear Guys

thank you for replying. Rajina - what do you mean £12 - what is £12 ?? D0 you mean if I get the cheque backs it works out as £12? Sorry to be dim! And J ex P4U - thank you also for info. What does BTW mean please?? Do people really forget to clain within 30 days then? Do I get paperwork that tells me when the redemption date is?? Does that come in the post with a bill or is it the original paperwork? Again sorry to be dim. I did not ask him all this .... but will go in tomorrow and find out. Anyway That does not seen hard to remember if you put it on a calender?? Or am I mssing somthing here? Do you have to send in original stuff or photocopy - and what exactly will I be sending in - cos if I pay up front the £300 (mind you cant remember now what exactly he said .... cos 12 x 25 is 300 so wonder if it was an 18 month contract . OK - will ask for the Samsung D900 . When you say they are clearance phones - are they ok though?

Sorry to ask so many questions.

    Cheers
    Maggie

With Phones 4 U you have to make sure you bargain for a good deal. They do give you immeadiate cashback on deals in store (to a maxium of £85), which is handy!

They can pretty much offer you as much as they like! But as others have said, i would'nt trust them to text you when your cash back is due - thats just asking for trouble!

My advice would be, if your happy with whats being offered then take it! They do offer good deals. Another top tip is once connected with a new contract, go back instore and ask to cancel the contract (you get 14days to cancel a contract and 28 days to change the handset). They will ring up thier head office and put you through to a member of thier customer rentention department who will more than likely offer you extra cash to stay with them. I managed to get £150 cashback on my deal last week :)

    Hi Maggie...
    BTW = by the way!!

I've always dealt with P4U, the cashback they offer is good but PLEASE don't bank on him reminding you...remember they are sales people & they are making money off you!!
Another thing you need to ask is how long the offer is on for...I was told I could get £75 cash back with the phone I wanted; a nokia 7373.
I went in the following week to get the phone to be told the offer ended first of the month, (they had to withdraw that phone from the offer as it was costing them too much money!!). So you will get the 'cheaper' phones in the offer. My last one was a Samsung D600 & it was a good little phone!
P4U have given me £40.00 cash there & then (I've had this off them the past 2 years when renewing my contract)....just for asking!!
Just remember, they want you more than you want them!!

    All the best hun!

Did they give you instant cashback or was it included as part of your cashback deal via redemption?

    Thanks for the good tip!

I thought from your 1st post that your deal would have worked out as you having to pay £12 for the whole year with all the cashbacks redemptions! but thats not the case as for now! as you'll set £75 x 3 and then you'll have to pay for the rest of the months!
Do people really forget to clain within 30 days then?
It all depends on individual cases! You could you a test reminder from google calender and set yourself a remider for the claim dates!

    Hope this helps!
