Cutting Bread

Hi.
What's the best way to cut bread?
I have a breadmaker but struggle to cut slices evenly and thinly. Any advice?
I'm just using a breadknife at the moment - should I use an electric knife? A slicer? Some other tool?

Electric carving knife works a treat.
M wife bakes bread (using a machine) and hot bread is nice, but as you have found, a bit hard to cut. Luckily we already had an old Moulinex electric knife, which works well, even with hot crusty bread.0 -
I make all my bread in a breadmaker too, and have found the only way I can cut the bread reasonably well is with an electric knife.Re-mortgaged 20/04/12 MTiT-T3 No.7Start balance £89611.10 + £22500 = £112111.10/Current balance £85436.53

As above. Last week I took a loaf to my son's and used a knife that slices day old bread with no problems but just made a mess of a 4 hour old loaf. Electric carving knife has no problems.0

1. Don't try and slice really fresh bread
2. I use a sharp ham knife
3. No problems0 -
Wait until the bread is cool, otherwise it will stick to the knife.
Use a decent serrated bread knife- cheap ones don't work so well.
I've never seen anyone use an electric knife.0 -
Saw gently, don't press down. Before you reach halfway, look over at the back of the loaf and just check that the slice width is still right, if not apply a little sideways pressure to correct.
And if you try and cut warm bread, saw even more gently. It can be done, and is worth it 'cos the bread is sooo tasty then!0 -
My mum has one of those machines which has a circular blade and you put the loaf up against a marker to ensure a slice the same width every time. It has been worth every penny.0

My Electric Knife skates over the top of my home-baked loaf.
I've found the best way is to start the cut with a bread knife and finish off with the Electric knife so get less of a door stop slice each time!0 -

we bought ourselves one of these. works a treat. you can set the depth of slice you want. no more 'half pipe' breadEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0
