who switches car insurance every year, due to a better price on a quote ?
I can't think that anyone wouldn't switch car insurance every year if, like for like, the new company was cheaper. Isn't that what money saving is all about? And, please note, I did say 'like for like'.
The only reason you wouldn't perhaps switch is if you went back to your original insurers and they agreed to match or beat the new price. Even then I'd feel they had been trying it on with their original price.0 -
I normally do. My current broker's renewal was about a tenner over my best quote this year though, so I didn't bother.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -
I don't recommend switching car insurance yearly. Find one that fits your needs and stick with that company. Being with a certain insurance company for certain number of years may even earn you some reward.0

Care to elaborate?
There is no advantage to be gained by sticking with a company for a 'certain number of years'. There's obviously no point moving for the fun of it, but if you can get the same quality of insurance for less elsewhere then move.0 -
I don't usually bother if the difference is less than £50 - its just too much of a hassle (made deliberately so by the insurance companies).
Firstly you have to hope your current company actually send a renewal price in advance, something my current insurer has failed to do this year. Very naughty of them as I'm on autorenew (they did insist). Thankfully I'm alert to such tactics.
Then you have search around for exactly the same cover, whilst trying to avoid giving your real details out, otherwise you'll be plagued by junk mail/ phone calls forever...
Then you have to ring your current company and try and haggle for a lower price. Not something Brits are good at or like doing.
If you decide to switch you have to make sure your current insurer doesn't 'autorenew' your policy. This means ringing and hoping they follow your instructions, and hoping they later don't deny all knowledge...
Then you have to send proof of no claims to your new insurer. This is of course dependent on you getting a renewal notice, something you current insurer might be awkward about if they know you're ditching them.... Then you have to hope this doesn't get lost in the post or get mislaid by your new insurer.
Having said all this, it's a process i'm going to have to got through this year as, as I've got a quote £70 cheaper. No doubt this is a heavily discounted first year premium that insists on 'autorenew' , so i'll have to go through the same thing next year. Can't wait....
Glad the the car insurance industry is being investigated. The whole industry stinks.0 -
I always shop around online, but I go to the local brokers in my area and see if they can compete.
I always prefer to be with someone local incase there are any problems, preferring to actually speak to someone face to face. So far, the brokers have been able to compete or come very close to the online premiums.0
