Cool thread, I'd always wanted one to cook our meat on and be healthy................couldn't afford one, and then we switched to a vegetarian diet last september. And then funnily enough I won one in the xmas raffle!!!! But it's been sat in the box in the cupboard, never used, as wasn't too sure what to cook on it!
But after reading this thread I now know I can do toasties, grill veggies and use it for impromptu BBQ's..................with vegetarian burgers and sausages of course!!Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. i love my george foreman. i must admit i cook toasted sandwich in it but i still butter the outside. as it goes really golden and crispy. i not worried by the health factor. also i slice an apple into generous slices and put that on george for a few mins , serve on their own or with custard. yummy.
i have even slit a banana in half , but still leaving it in skin then put slices of mars bar on the banana , wrapped it up in foil and put it in george for about 7 mins. oh total heaven. the mars bar melts and the banana caranalises. i seemed to have found all unheathly ways to use a george. but i wouldn't be without it0 -
Queenie wrote:When others reply, could they please also explain to me (a non convert to GF grills) how they are better than using the grill on your cooker?
I take the point about the fat and water, but, I get all that out when I grill usually anyway (I have never been much of a one to fry food and have always used the grill).
TIA
well for one they touch both the top and the bottom of the meat and sear it quickly which keeps the flavour in and cooks it very fast
i cook pork chops from frozen as well as this way they brown nicely on top and are still juicy inside but completely cooked (i found it cooked the thawed pork chops too quickly and they were dry)
i love mine!founder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -

i have the cleaning problem too. it is all about the kitchen roll for best results!
cook thin meat from frozen, it will cook perfectly on the outside and the inside at the same time! i do this all the time (and yes i check to make sure it's cooked through)
we clean the grill as it's cooling down, dh uses the edge of one of those soft flexible plastic clips you get from ikea to clib bags shutfounder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -
i absolutly love mine, the only thing i don't like on it is steak, but my best is chicken, it comes out so juicy and suculent, OH uses it for those cheap burgers and things so it gets rid of the majority of the fat, its one of the best things i have ever bought for the kitchen. Plus if i would rather clean the GF than the grill anydayWork like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0

Just used mine this evening to make HM burges (virgin try) as its yummy and cooked though in mintues! - excellent little beast (had mine for 3 years now)
Now I really use it to get rid of the excess fat and water as I don't want to eat that junk but to see what was coming out of them burges I made this evening was pure fat out of lean mince meat! It filled the little tray up very quickly and that was only for 250g of mince.
What is the best way of cooking fish on these grills?
Going to try the frozen chop tomorrow for tea.0 -
Had a george and wore it out through use...now got a Rosemary Conley Grill (same sort). Have cooked Tuna on it and DH said it was brill...
I always clean mine whilst hot...using kitchen roll...find two sheets does whole thing...
I also spray it with spray oil every now and again...keeps the non stick working...

I do exactly the same, dont let the fat cool on it, wipe it with a scrunched up kitchen towel or two down the lines of the grooves towards the drip tray. Then get a microfibre cloth or similar, soak in hot water and rinse to go over the grill tray to remove the remaining fat residue. Mine still looks like new as well and it gets a regular thrashing! :T

Mine was a pressie.
I only use it for toasted sandwiches. I have cooked chicken in it and it was really nice, but in the main when I cook meat it is in a stir fry or the slow cooker so I never bother to cook meat in it. If you grill or fry meat regularly then you will probably get a lot of use out of it.
It makes a mean toasted sandwich and is much easier to wipe clean than the sandwich toaster. I sold the sandwich toaster at a car boot and kept the GF just for doing them instead!0 -
Every time you lot mention the George Foreman grills, I always tell you to get an Breville Antony Worrell Thompson one, It's got removable hotplates, which you can just chuck in the sink/dishwasher.0
