Been called for medical - not happy

Just got a letter from ATOS that I need to go for a medical assessment on the 26th October.

I feel very very scared, I am shaking and tearful already and worried I will fail and loose my money!!

Considering I thought I had filled the form in to the best of my ability, I have a heart condition and am worried how the stress of this will affect my health.

I've heard so many bad things that people fail at these medicals, I really don't know how I will cope if I have to appeal!!

Any help please to help me pass would be very grateful!!

Even if you lose your ESA income, there are other benefits you can claim.

I can see why you'd post a new thread, OP, but I thought I'd link to earlier ones, so all the advice is in one place -- I hope I got the right ones.

I'll be honest, I've read your many other threads and I do think you are going to struggle to prove you are unable to do any kind of work. I think that is why you are so panicky about having to attend a medical.

Ultimately, crying and shaking isn't going to help. Muttley has given you good advice but you're not going to be given a magic wand.

From other posts you have written, there is a boyfriend kicking around somewhere isn't there? In the same house, who is working but doesn't think he needs to help you out?

Isn't that what partners are for? The whole point of being in a partnership? Or am I stupid?

My partner's wages wont support both of us; his overtime has now stopped, and as he pays the mortgage he cant afford to pay for me as well!!
  • Mara's right. The aim of these things is to get people back into work that they can do, not keep them at home.

My mum had to attend an ATOS medical - she said they were very friendly and clear about what was going on, they didn't try and ask her anything to "trip her up". As it was, she was 3 months from her pension anyway, so it was a bit silly calling her in! :D

OP - you might find work helps your anxiety, and admin work doesn't require too much walking. :)

One of your other threads states you have given him over eight thousand pounds for home improvements. Another thread says you've been on some kind of benefit for twenty two years now, so did you pay for those improvements with incapacity/sickness etc benefits?

I have to say that I agree. Sinus tachycardia is nothing more than a fast heart beat and this in itself wouldn't be classified as a heart problem. It can lead to it and would need investigation, but many people suffer from it (including my partner who works full-time) without any consequences. Same with the thyroid problem and depression. Unless you have strong medical evidence of care etc... I don't think these diagnosis on their own will be enough to get you where you wish to be.

Try and see the medical a a positive. It might give you a chance to explain your problems in depth and you might find out that there are jobs that you can do. :)

Indeed - this gives you the chance to show the assessor how you are. My assessment went smoothly, I was treated well and put into the WRAG (which has recently been overturned on appeal). it is human nature for people to post on forums when they are unhappy, and to keep quiet wen they are not, but many of these 'medicals' go well.
