Making towels soft

Hi mhoc, I'm afraid the only way I've found to get my towels fluffy is the dreaded tumble drier BUT you don't need to dry them from wet - I hang them up till they're just a bit damp then shove them in the drier from 10 mins or so, then take them out and give them a shake. BTW I use conditioner every so often (for the smell as much as anything!) but as per other threads vinegar / washing soda does just as good a job for a fraction of the price.
Happy fluffing!£2 savers club - £62

My local M&S store has a big sign up saying not to use fabric conditioner with their towelstravelover0

Fabric conditioner is supposed to stop the towels being so absorbant. Since my lot only use a towel for that brief moment between unfolding it newly washed and dropping it on the floor to be trampled into a heap, it's a risk I can take.0

I might be wrong but I seem to recall reading that fabric conditioner makes towels water resistant. Not much good as towels if they don't absorb water.Fiscal drag, that's my problem. Too many people dragging on my fiscals.0

Blimey i didn't know that, thanks BigDunc
I must admit i'm with you on this one Carpool, it's the only way i've been able to get mine fluffy again.0 -
Wish I'd discovered this group before, 17 years ago I was having the same problem with terry nappies!
I've got Crosse and Blackwell distilled malt sarsons vinegar which is clear. Is that the right one? And how much do I use per load?
I've just started using Tesco own label value fabric conditioner, 33p. I cant see much difference between this and the branded ones. So I think I will try vinegar on the towels and use the fab con on clothes. Three teenagers in the hour so we have some very smelly washing!

Yep, distlilled malt clear vinegar is the right stuff, but the cross and blackwell one is a bit extravegant for washing with. I get mine from Asda as it's only 45p (ish).
I put a capful of an old consentrated lenor type bottle. I guess it is about 2 or 3 tbsp.
When you get the washing out of the washer it might smell a bit vinegary but that will go after it dries.
I make my own fabric softner from Vinegar, bicarb and essential oils. It smells a bit better and I think it keeps the clothes fresher for longer. THe 'recipe' is on the cleaning links thread on the main old style page. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -

Fascinating, I always thought it was just me. So all those fab con adverts have been feeding us a pack of lies for years!

I use Bold and they always come out nice and soft.
