Mice at work dropping on my desk

Hope this is where I should post.

It's been confirmed this morning that the office where I work in has got mice, mainly their droppings have been found on my desk and on two other desk situation near to mine, the environmental health guy has been into the office this morning has has put a trap down next to my desk.

My question is should my work supply cleaner for our desks or is that our responsibility? Any other advice about this would be great.

Thank you.

  • OP thought the post was going to be they were actually falling onto your desk!

At my last company we were kinda over run with mice and they used to poop all over the desks. Cleaners wiped over the desks at night but then between 6pm and 9am goodness know what would happen as we'd still find droppings.

You have to just wipe them off and keep reporting the mice to HR or the office manager.

No sorry they are on my desk, tbh I am a bit freaked out by it, I can't stand the thought of mice being all over my desk. Our desk as far as I know only get wiped down once a week if the cleaner has time, that might change now since we def have them. Any other advice would be great.

You think that's bad. I've had rabbit droppings on my boss's desk before. In fact, the rabbit gnawed on a number of company documents and !!!!ed on computer keyboards... and the carpet. The manager came in horrified and made a huge effort to investigate how a rabbit managed to sneak its way inside the building without anyone noticing. Unfortunately nothing was revealed.

Little did they know I brought my pet rabbit with me that day. :D
  • I think I would be taking responsibility to clean my own desk if it only had a wipe down once a week, and then only if the cleaner had time. As you have mice, I'd definitely be providing my own spray cleaner as it could be several hopurs between the cleaner finishing work and you starting work. I'd also provide my own cloths and take them home to make sure that they were washed properly.

Some companies won't allow you to bring in your own cleaning stuff so check that first too .

I have been an office cleaner for over 20 years and the desks should certainly be wiped down more than once a week,we also had sanitizing wipes which were used on phones but could I am sure be used on desks does not sound like a good cleaning firm.

  • You need a office cat, The marina where I keep my boat has two in the office to keep the mice under control as does the local DIY store.
