I get this every day, just had another one about 5 minutes ago and there was actually someone there who asked for my wife by name. I asked who was calling and where they got my number from and they hung up. How rude.Nothing to see here, move along.0

We have caller ID showing on our cheapo walk-about phones. Unknown callers, or from abroad, or number withheld, we don't answer. And most of the time our answerphone kicks in anyway. Wasn't there a BBC news report this week of some guy who got fed up with cold callers and took one of 'em to County Court -- and won? Great stuff!0

Or, if you're using a comparison site (some of which insist on a number), find their HQ number and put that in? Let the spammers call their marketing partner for a change until someone's single working brain cell kicks in and goes "Oh! Snap!" :rotfl:fluffnutter wrote: »Sign up with TPS and don't give your number out unless you're confident that it won't be passed on. When buying things on the interweb, don't list your number. Why would they need it? They've got your email address and can use that to contact you. If the number is a mandatory field, use something like 0111 1111111 or some other number that doesn't exist.0 -

I am on TPS and have found that this has hugely reduced the number of uwanted calls (it may take a few weeks after you have registered for this to take effect).
TPS is to prevent unsolicited calls so you may find that you will still have contact with companies that you have previously spoken to and have given permission for them to contact you.
Or you may have ticked (or failed to untick) a box as regards to future contact with some sort of correspondance you have had with a company regarding contacting you or sharing your details.
If it is a UK company that is pestering you, find out exactly who it is, ask them to remove your details and if they don't comply you can complain I think to

It won't stop overseas calls however.0 -
I somehow managed to change my answerphone message to french and I always let the machine answer the calls so I can hear who it is (all my family are aware of this and do the same) but I am amazed at how it puts people off calling back! I love the idea of using the companies head office number, made me chuckle0

Been doing that for years!
I've also been known to update persisitent junk mailers with my "new address" which just happens to be their own head office. I wonder if Citibank are still sending themselves their own marketing literature...0 -

After buying 2 new Bosch appliances for my kitchen, i now keep getting their offer of extended guarantees by post (took care not to supply a phone number or email). I have just taken their envelope with 2nd class prepaid and I am sending the docs back to them.
re. phone: Someone has tried to ring me both on my mobile and landline this eve but did not give a number. I never answer any calls where the number is not provided and also no daytime calls and no calls beginning with 08.0 -
I answered a call at my Mum´s house, from an Indian gentleman who insisted that my mother was due a refund on insurance on a loan. I know for a fact that my mother has never taken out a loan in her life, so enquired who the loan was with. And kept repeating the same question, whatever he said. Eventually he told me to "go to hell!" and hung up rather forcefully. I mean, how rude!!0
