Yesterday I was sitting (more lying really) on my couch reading my Kindle. The room was warm and I could tell I was going to go to sleep anytime now. I always give into these urges. I snuggled down to get even more comfortable and was just in that very peaceful zone.
That's when the phone rang.
A foreign sounding lady who asked for me by name and said that she was going to help me re-claim some money from my bank. She was a bit faint so I had to shout but it didn't stop her. She carried on reading the script and then said pardon. I shouted again asking not to call me again and she apologised for disturbing me.
She called from 002078700199 wherever that is and after seeing Rip Off Britain on BBCTV where these helpful people re-claim the money and don't give it to the customer I had my doubts about her.
I have never borrowed money from a bank or paid for PPI anyway.
I went back to the couch but the mood was gone. Today I will unplug my phone before reading my book.

It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.

I've just had a call - welsh accent - most persistent DESPITE my insisting that I have never taken out PPI. Ended up putting the phone down with a firm - 'I'm not interested'. Now I wont get all my housework done.*sigh*

fascinating - there's a typo in your quote of my post that wasn't in my post;)Squire_Fulwood wrote: »Now that is sad.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

I get these calls all the time I act really interested.
Then I ask them how much their "service" costs. They normally quote 25%
I then ask "Ok so you are going to charge me 25% when I can go to the FOS who will do it for free? Why would I do that? Especially as I use to work for them and know that most of the time companies like yours use the FOS anyway?"
They either get shirty (which is funny) or hang up either way I don't hear from them again

Our landline now seems only to serve as something to annoy with phone spammers, I rarely (like 2-3 times a year) make landline calls, and anyone I want to talk to will call my mobile anyway. Probably time to get rid of it soon, which is kinda a shame really.0

Sign up with TPS and don't give your number out unless you're confident that it won't be passed on. When buying things on the interweb, don't list your number. Why would they need it? They've got your email address and can use that to contact you. If the number is a mandatory field, use something like 0111 1111111 or some other number that doesn't exist.
The less your number is 'out there' the fewer calls you get. I don't get any and I'm thankful for it. Get a few texts on my mobile though, but this is because I've been less cautious with the number."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

This will get rid of most of them but some companies have machines that dial random (well not totally random) numbers until they get an answer.0 -
Agreed. Plus it won't stop calls from abroad either. In reality there's nothing you can do to completely prevent calls, but I still believe the single most powerful defence is to rarely give out your number."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
