Would this irk you?

If you bought something on ebay described as 'brand new without tags' then when you received it, you discovered it wasn't infact brand new. It had been washed and looked abit bobbly. You emailed the seller and they confirmed it has been washed, but not used.
I would never describe an item that had been washed as bnwot, as in my opinion, once its clearly been washed, its no longer brand new. If this was the case, I would say so in my listing that although unworn it has been washed as it has been in storage. And I would list it as used also.
The seller seemed to think it was fine to describe it as brand new, even though it wasn't! She also had a couple of other feedbacks saying she'd sold bobbly clothes as being in good condition or stained clothes with iron marks on them.
Checked her other listings and everything she's listed is 'BNWOT' so I would assume they've all been washed as well.

yes it would irk.
you were told it was new, it clearly isn't or it wouldn't have bobbles.
sellers like that make me cross!0 -
Yes, I would be annoyed too.
If it had been new, and unworn, it wouldn't have needed washing.
Also, things dont go 'bobbly' after 1 wear and wash.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Glad it wasn't just me being picky then. The seller was quite rude as well, saying she only washed it out of courtesy as it had been in a box for ages and was dusty and smelt of cardboard, but she'd also cut the label out as she said "to prevent store returns" riiiiiight! And not because the label was either irritating her when wearing it, or was on show (it was a scarf).
Told her she should have stated that it had been washed in the listing, and that if her idea of brand new was only washed once, then I could sell my whole wardrobe as bnwot only washed once!0 -
It would irk me too, bobbling indicates it has been well worn rather than just washed once.0

Lables cut out? LOL! Probably bought it from Primark and said it was from M&S.
Or it was a job lot of seconds - as they have their labkles removed.
So this "NEW" item has:
Been washed.
Has no tags.
Bobbly
Lable removed.
I'd be tempted to neg her top be honest.0 -
What feedback would you have left? If any? Or would you have asked for a refund (baring in mind, I would have had to pay for the return postage making it not worth my while).
I paid more for it than I would have done had it been listed as used, infact I probably wouldn't have bid on it at all had I known it wasn't new. I also had put in a higher amount as my highest bid, but luckily it didn't get bid up to that much.
The seller was adamant she was in the right and wasn't apologetic in the slightest and never once offered a refund or a discount (not that I asked for one, but she could obviously tell I wasn't happy with the situation.0 -
Definitely not new. Buyer would have been better off not washing but indicating on the listing that it was dusty/musty through storing. Or, brushed it off with a clothes brush and sprayed a bit of febreeze on it.
Of course, they could have done that if it actually was the truth and it was not used but, I think, as McKneff says, things don't go bobbly after just one wash and I think you're probably spot on about the label. Open a case on her !!!! and report all her other dodgy listings.
Ebayers like this give everyone a bad name."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -

Sorry posts crossed. It was the washing label that had been cut out, the brand label was still attached.
I was going to either leave no fb at all, or leave neutral, but after her replies and attitude, I decided to leave her a negative. She then kicked off abit more. I just wondered if I was being harsh leaving a negative, but tbh, i think she should have a negative as the rest of her stuff is probably in the same condition, and being described as bnwot. Also with the other fb she has (although written in a positive fb) says it wasn't in good condition as described, I think she thinks she can get away with selling all her stuff as brand new when it isn't.0 -

All things considered I'd neg her and trash her As described and coms stars to hell and back.
I think I would also open the case and send it back; take the hit on the postage. I know it's not fair on you but there's some satisfaction from the hassle it's going to cause her to sort it out and she'll probably be silly enough not to roll over and end up with a strike when ebay make her refund you.
If more people did this then she'd get her account closed down PDQ."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -
Washing an item once doesn't produce bobbles though.
Normally items BNWOT are joblot of returns / seconds. IMO this is someone being a bit economical with the truth by the sounds of it.
Yes it would hack me off too, people bid according to the info you give in the item description. Describing an item as excellent condition and then it comes with bobbles would annoy me, as its not excellent condition and would suggest it had been well loved prior to you getting it.0
