birthday cake ideas?

I had my first go at making a birthday cake a few weeks ago - my twin girls were 1
I went with their favourite toy which happened to be a caterpillar... this also made it easy to share between them - I made several small round cakes and stuck them together with icing - then iced over the top of all of them. We had fun decorating the board etc with jelly sweets (and eating a few).
I also made a load of fairy cakes for visitors to eat which made life a lot easier - I did a few batches and made some into butterfly cakes and decorated others with buttercream icing and hundreds and thousands - was a lot nicer to buy and make and got me all creative :rotfl:
