Sounds a bit strange - I've logged into HSBC several times this year from Greece and the Canaries (latest was only a couple of weeks ago). I do get the odd glitch (from UK as well as abroad) when the 'dongle' number has timed out, but almost always works when I re-try.0

They might have blocked the IP addresses because they aren't UK ones. All in the interest of your safety, to protect you from foreign hackers....of course hackers would be the first ones who know how to bypass IP restrictions.
Have you asked HSBC why they blocked you?0 -

There's no way to fully bypass an IP restriction apart from using an IP based in the UK (but I assume HSBC locked the whole account) which still wouldn't match OP's other IP's to login which could only be used if they compromised his/her network.
As others have said this sounds like part of standard fraud screening and I assume they flagged the IP range you're using or saw it as outside your normal travel patterns. I've certainly had problems with HSBC and their overprotective fraud systems with my debit card.0 -
My hubby banks with HSBC, and accessed his online banking loads when we were in the states a few weeks ago, although he did advise them beforehand. Ive also not had any problems accessing my Natwest, Barclays, Halifax or Citi online banking while awayDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0

Quite funny for a bank that promotes itself on the back of its global presence.0

Why not set up a Direct Debit to save the hassle in the future. I have DD set up on all my cc accounts and normally pay them manually but if any problems I know the DD will always kick in.0 -
You need to speak to HSBC to check the reasons as anyone else is just speculating.
I know that I can log in globally to my business banking with them and never had a problem in the UK, USA, UAE, Cyprus or Itlay0 -

My Bank lets me log in but blocks all sorts of payment transactions from overseas... with extra security.. not helpful .. They should just block payments to completely new payees while overseas... other should go smoothly.... Hope some one is listening...I am Novice wrt Knowledge on UK Banking industry. I post based on my own experiences and knowledge of using credit cards overseas.0

I had no trouble logging into First Direct (owned by HSBC), Barclaycard, Tesco Bank, Bank of Scotland, Lloyds TSB, M&S Money and Virgin Money in the South of France two weeks ago.0
