We have had the hail too, it's colder now, following it, huh?

Either that or it was significantly warmer in the south east than it is back here today.

We had a cold snap on Thursday and Friday but it's back to nice (being between 20 & 25C and sunny) in Sydney. I put the gas fire on at breakfast time on Thrusday because it was about 10C. Brrrrr.

We don't have snow in Sydney ever. Seriously never: I have never met anyone who has seen snow falling in Sydney and I know lots of old people that have lived all their lives in Sydney.

I have friends in Leura (up the mtn from Sydney) who had snow on Friday and still had it at lunchtime today when we spoke today. If they'd called us sooner I'd have driven the kids up there so they could've seen snow. Instead I took them to see Sydney FC vs Newcastle Jets. Emile Heskey scored a goal!

Seems OK/warm here, not noticed a difference before/after.... but I didn't expect a test so haven't taken readings... or, hardly been outside to be honest :)

Teachers have to give half a term's notice (state sector) or a whole term's notice (private sector). Most job moves happen over the summer. So if you're not going to come back in September, you need to give notice by the end of May (state) or the end of April (private). The general expectation is that you will give notice as soon as you know you have another job to go to, to maximise the time they have to replace you, so people generally don't leave it until the final day to hand notice in. If you do leave it until the final day, then your school can't appoint someone working in the same kind of job, because they can't give notice. So private schools then appoint people from state schools whose notice period is shorter, and state schools appoint people from PGCE courses or career breaks or doing supply teaching, who don't have to give notice at all.

Interesting, so private schools are more likely to get applicants.

We were near Oxford. Dh always thinks of Oxford as cold, I always think of it as warmer than where I was, further north further west and lower population density.

Setting up home in another country must be an interesting process.Years ago I read a book about how subjective time changes speeds at differnt stages of your life, generally speeding up as you get older. Apparently one of the ways of slowing it down again is to learn a language and/or learn to live in another country.

Have you far-travelling NPs noticed this effect? or have purch, gen and sc all picked countries that are similar to the UK so they don't seem that different? Maybe israel's more different than oz as it's less familiar via telly and has its own language. America sometimes seems asfamilar as the UK with its exposure on the box

Setting up a holiday home is a lot easier than setting up a new life, I would imagine. The language barrier isn't too bad as virtually everyone has english as a second language and has learnt it well.
