I've had a grovelling text message from a business manager this morning apologising for missing a meeting on my birthday (enclosing a cheque for £250) and he's hoping to meet me this week.

I want cheques enclosed with my texts. How does this feature work?

Brings me back to my other rant. How many people with a science A level get to do science journalism or any journalism? I think everybody needs a bit more science than they've learned by 16 to cope with this world and certainly to write about it wisely.

Otherwise we'd all be making life-shortening decisions about health and the environment and wrecking ourselves and the world. Until I came to London I'd never heard the saying "too clever by half".

I'm a bigger fan of another Londoner, Danny Baker's saying "There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known";)

I know I need to know more than my current age 14 level physics (I did biology/chemistry at O level)...middle son keeps asking me if he is doing something right when he is doing his homework.

He might as well be talking a foreign language (well one I don't know anyway) as it is all gobblygook to me!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Well the gig went well, mayor and mayoress in attendance and it looks like they have managed to get another gig off the back of it...for next week!

We'll be eating pumpkin pie next Thursday I hope. Or maybe pecan pie.

I love this time of year!

Pecan pie, I'd eat any time I could get it:beer:

You know tons of Biology Chemistry compared with people that didn't do the O level!
You can catch up on some missing physics at the minute Physics channel on youtube.
I'll bet Lydia can suggest better sites!

The sum of my science knowledge:
Chemistry: you can squeeze green colour out of grass using a pestle and mortar, then get it to go through some round filters - can't remember why though.
Physics: Push is the same energy as pull. You use bunsen burners.
Biology: Where babies come from, with the aid of outline diagrams.

My knowledge of Chemistry: Erm, not a lot. Thanks to a photographic memory and a muck about with a revision book minutes before the exam, I somehow got an O level in the blooming thing....I didn't know the first thing about the subject really.

Biology: Fairly wide knowledge but most of it picked up since I left school.

I was actually quite good at physics (age 14 level anyway!) but unfortunately, I could only pick either biology/chemistry or physics/chemistry at O level and I needed biology for my career plan, so physics had to go by the wayside.

Queenslanders are a great design for a tropical house. I read a great book during a sleepless night in Canberra about the history of the Queenslander.

Apparently people only cleaned themselves, crapped and slept indoors, the rest of life (cooking especially) was done on the veranda or on a middle zone between house and outside. The stilts, as you are doubtless aware, are to allow air to circulate all around the house for cooling purposes.

I've had a look on the net Gen and found a Queenslander very similar to my uncle's one. I thought I'd post a link in case people were wondering what we were talking about. His is a low set one. The one in the pic is slightly different, but it would surprise me if it was the same model at some point as the layout is almost identical, as are the windows and kitchen units. He has done far more work on his though, so it looks more upgraded than the one in the pics. The covered verandah to the front has fantastic windows that all open out so you can sit in the fresh air. Again this is the same. Only thing that really surprises me about this house is that I can't see a single fly screen.

I forgot to mention that his does sit a bit higher (there are six steps up to the front door) as it is on a slight gradient.

    Mine's probably not that good.

    Chemistry: copper sulphate is pretty
Physics: you need a circuit for a battery to power something.
Biology: I did human biology and can probably name a few random bones and organs, though if pushed, probably couldn't place them on a diagram, except the main ones.

I also learned that I could find out more at the library.

Are the rail replacement buses every weekend missk? You seem to have been a bit unlucky of late.
