Hi, I had my small make-up bag, in my handbag, in my holdall, there was no problem with that. All the lotions and potions were in a clear resealable bag.
This flagged up on the xray machine and I was called to the side for a check.
You are given a tray to put your jacket and keys and wallet etc in. There are random shoe checks and you may be asked to remove them.
Don't exceed the 100ml for liquids rule, they are very strick with that. The guy in front of me was trying to take Gillette razors and shaving gel sets through and he had to pay £10 to put them in the hold.

I know a woman who had a lipstick taken off her and another woman who got her deodorant taken off her in Spain, after she had brought it through ok from Glasgow  It depends what jobsworth....ahem...customs official
    you get :rotfl:

    That sounds terrible. :-(

Talk about changing our way of life.

Do they do all this on long haul flights too, as with many people, lip balm/moisturiser etc. is often necessary to stop you drying up and cracking like crazy paving.

Are you allowed to take any electrical stuff or will they have a hissy fit at that too?

Hi, it was the first time i'd flown since the changes and I found a big difference. You could always put electrical stuff in your hold luggage.
I only took a holdall, so I was panicing a bit about what I could take through
but as long as you stick to the rules you will be ok.
As I said, I put things like lipbalm in the clear plastic bag and that was ok.

A guy sitting behind me on the plane was playing with a Gameboy, so an MP3 should be alright.

I used to really look forward to my flights but all these checks put you off.
Or is that the point :rotfl:

No problems taking mp3s ipods cameras laptops etc, the biggest changes are the liquids.

you can still take make up toiletries etc within the guidelines, which are no container size to exceed 100ml ( no part bottles, say half of a 200ml container) and must be contained in clear plastic sealed bag, declared/put through x ray at security outside of your hand luggage.

Drinks can be bought airside and taken onto plane.

Medication and baby milk is permited in reasonable quantity for the journey only. and must also be declared and possibly tested as you go through security.

A bit of organisation is all that is required for your packing. Any liquids, gels etc found inside hand luggage in error, no matter how innocent or expensive will be taken off you, so be organised.

Leave all your fancy belts jewels etc at home or in your case or spend ages taking them off at security,

Matching socks without holes may spare some blushes, removing shoes is commonplace!

Hand baggage should weigh no more than 5 kilo, it doesnt matter if in 2 bags or more, the weight and size of bag is important and must fit under seat or in overhead locker on plane.

I've listened to music on my phone on flights since the tighter rules (with headphones and quietly!).

I was amazed the last time that I came back from Calgary with Air Canada. A woman two seats away from me chatted on her mobile phone the whole time that we were boarding in full sight of the cabin crew and they were ok with that. Then we started to taxi to the runway and she still chatted and still they didn't stop her despite seeing her. Then just as the engines fired up for take off she finished the call. At no point was she spoken to.

I've flown with 3 different airlines this year and all had their own rules on hand luggage size and weight and whether laptops and handbags were counted as extra bags so you're best to check their websites. They all had the same regulations for liquids but I got a plastic bag and took through a small amount of makeup including lip balm with no problem - just make sure you stick to the limits. You can also take a lighter now (if you need one!) but this has to be carried on your person. To be truthful it's not a big hassle and my trusty clear plastic resealable bag now lives in my hand luggage ready for easy access whenever I need it! :)
BTW I also used an MP3 player on all the flights
