Flight baggage/item rules

Hi everyone. I'm going on holiday for the first time in a few years soonish. But i haven't flown since the government brought in these laws about being allowed to take water etc. etc. I have been reading up about them but they do seem very confusing and draconian to say the least.
My flight will be over 4 hours and so i normally want to take at least 1 litre of water for that, though i have read that 100ml is the limit, quite ridiculous!!!
Also one member of my party has to take medication in liquid form, but by the looks of things they are likely to be getting the rubber glove treatment if they so dare to take the necessary medication they used to take with them legally just several months ago, before the days of anti-freedom.
Has anyone got any advice or stories about problems they have had? Thanking you all.

I have not had any problem at all. Stick to the rules and you'll be fine, if it is medication then I *think* they will let you through if you have a letter from your doctor and a copy of the prescription. You can take liquid on the plane that you buy after passport control so I usually buy a couple of big bottles of water in WHSmith or Boots, it isn't that expensive.0

I fly regularly and haven't had any problems. You are only allowed to take liquids of less than 100ml through security, so I just buy bottled water from the shops once I'm through security, same as Heva.
The rules for medicine are here:

Thankyou for that. Though tasting or testing medicine on the skin sounds ridiculous.Fight the WEF.0

Hi all - I'm flying soon for the first time since the stricter rules.
Ive always taken a small vanity case as handluggage for my camera & equipment, as well as my handbag for some make-up, purse and passport/tickets.
In the past a handbag didn't seem to count as hand luggage (maybe cos every woman I know has one sugically attached !);)
Am I only allowed one piece of hand luggage now ie camera holdall OR handbag ?....don't fancy putting my expensive camera in my case or in my bag along with everything else.
Plus is make-up allowed through now ?- I NEED lip balm on the plane - don't know about everyone else but I start to shrivel up as soon as we take off !
Cheers

May as well post in this thread rather than starting my own.
What's the deal on electrical items these days? Can i take my MP3 player? Or do i have to fall for another con trick to try and make you buy electrical goods from the flight side shops? (Including a free Sealion Dione CD only £244).Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -
avstar, flying out from Heathrow last month we were only allowed one item of hand luggage each, so if you had a handbag you had to put it inside your holdall while you walked through security.
As for liquids etc, they were saying no liquids unless medication or some sorts of make up etc and declared beforehand and carried through in a small plastic bag, which was supplied.
Edinburgh airport in the same month were not allowing through *any* bottled drinks at all, however tiny and people were told to put them in special bins in the security section.
Lastly watch the size of hand luggage. I've travelled several times since the new restrictions and some airlines are tighter on size than others. Many won't let you take though a bag that exceeds their size guidelines.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Your camera will have to go in your one piece of hand luggage. I personally wouldn't risk putting it in your checked luggage.
It says HERE that lip balms aren't permitted , but I had mine in my handbag (which was in my backpack) last month and nothing was said
Don't anyone do what I did and take their handbag out of their cabin bag and put it under the seat then forget about it when getting off the plane
I had to wait ages at Heathrow until someone could get it for me  Same old same old since 20080 -
Thanks Soolin & Sheel ! I'll try and take a small handbag that I can squash into my holdall as we go thru security.
Think I'll just buy a lip balm after security - can't be arsed with the hassle of getting a clear plastic bag etc - I'm always scrabbling about for the right documents in airports as it is, without extra plaggy bags getting in the way !0 -
I just took a chance with lipbalm, I always carry it in a little makeup bag in my handbag along with my inhaler, painkillers, rennies etc. The most that I could lose of they found it would be 99p! I didn't take a chance with my Tweezerman tweezers that are usually in that little bag as well, there is a limit to my daring!:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0

Hi, I had my small make-up bag, in my handbag, in my holdall, there was no problem with that. All the lotions and potions were in a clear resealable bag.
This flagged up on the xray machine and I was called to the side for a check.
You are given a tray to put your jacket and keys and wallet etc in. There are random shoe checks and you may be asked to remove them.
Don't exceed the 100ml for liquids rule, they are very strick with that. The guy in front of me was trying to take Gillette razors and shaving gel sets through and he had to pay £10 to put them in the hold.
I know a woman who had a lipstick taken off her and another woman who got her deodorant taken off her in Spain, after she had brought it through ok from Glasgow
It depends what jobsworth....ahem...customs official
