I buy a gift each month (which reminds me I haven't bought one this month). I buy for friends and family throughout the year and I start in October on the childrens presents. Absolutely refuse to shop for presents in December - I hate the rushing around and the crowds.
I had some really good bargains in the Debenhams blue cross sale in January, lots of lovely presents down to half price!!!!!0 -
Hi
Me too, have a look at my signiture below... it has been painless doing it this way. I say to myself I will do this every year, this year is the first year I have actually kept the promise to myself and I like it. I want to save up for all the Christmas food shopping too.0 -
Hi Dragon Lady - yes you are sane (or all us other posters are insane with you!)
I have done around 50% of my xmas shopping, in Jan sales and picking up bargains as and when I see them. Am looking forward to a well organised, stress free xmas 07 :T*** PROPHECY_GRRL****** DEBT FREE AS OF 17/10/11 - I DID IT!!! ***0 -
I think that the mad Christmas spending rush is probably one of the things that pre-lightbulb would have got most of us reaching for our credit cards, spending money on things that are far too expensive, that wouldn't be appreciated, and that we certainly couldn't afford.
This is followed by that post Christmas low - getting in the credit cards and wondering why on earth you bought that much food!
Of course, now that we are DFWs, we are all either budgeting and putting money away for Christmas, or are buying throughout the year when we see something appropriate.
We are also able to use up all of that excess food with storecupboard challenges and meal planning!
And OF COURSE, we are all going through quidco, using pigsback vouchers, and buying in the sales, aren't we!

I bought a few bits in the Jan sales (sadly not wrapping paper!), we save our clubcard points for xmas and once I start work I will start a savings fund."Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little." Edmund Burke

Like many others I too have bought in january sales - wrapping paper, crackers, more baubles etc. saving up my tesco vouchers, marks and spencer vouchers sadly had to spend the £13 I had in vouchers recently due to late payday also saving with park hampers (high street vouchers) have done for years but this may be my last year as I don't seem to spend them as well as I did due to tesco/asda etc having such good bargains throughout the year, so know you're not daft it pays to be prepared and as soon as one christmas is over I start preparing for the next:rolleyes:MFiT-T7 #17 (Jan 2025) £193k (Apr) £177k (July) £

So OHto you
andto me.
Just waiting to get sons 20th Birthday [1st May] and daughters 17th [21st June] out of the way and then I am going to start seriously getting sorted early this year.
I must be the only female I know that absolutely HATES shopping in any shape or form. Food, clothes, present buying etc., Bleh!! Half an hour maximum, thats my limit, even when I have got the money.
I dread getting Gift Vouchers or money for Birthdays and Christmas.Always have done and probably always will.
So thanks one and all. Keep up the good work!! :AProud to be dealing with my debts ONE day at a timeStopped smoking 25.05.07 - Saving £7.80 a day:j Successfully claimed bank charges of £2598.39 as of 1st June 2007:j0 -
Hi Peeps
no definately not sad- i belong to the organised christmas site and already have alot fo my stuff done!!!
i put £100 aside today after bills for towards Xmas (had money appear in my bank form nowhere yesterday! so paid my bilsl so the £350 im due tomorrow will probably end up put aside too!) and im planning a tesco shop tomorrow so i will make sure i buy some stamps - even if its just a few quid towards the christmas shop.
Ive got piggy points started and going (im at about £3.40 so far i think but havent done the quizes or click throughs for this week yet!) really must get my butt in gear with those. Im hoping that tomorrow ill be able to pick up a few bits but this year will be a busy one as i have 3 friends babies due within a month of each other, my little boys birthday is in may, bfs is in June but then i have the next 6 months free to do nothing but save which is cool.
Ive got hampers ready to be filled up so ill start looking for a few bits for each of them tomorrow too and must start looking at stuff for sons birthday too as thats only about 4/5 weeks away.
Besidse that ive a few more bits done and am hopign to start some craft stuff tomorrowTime to find me again0
