Try calling Sky and ask for a free upgrade, I did yrs ago charged £30 for the install, to run in the extra cable etc

I think it's implied that the OP already has a Sky sub-but a very old digibox.
OP, if this is the case and you don't already have a twin feed from the LNB, you will not be able to record one channel while watching another. To do that will require an additional feed.

Our digibox is only a year old. We had a box fitted in another room but, did not realise the free one Sky provided was a basic model :o never mind we thought but there have been many times when watchable programmes have clashed :rotfl: hence the decision to upgrade.
We do have a quad LNB so am I right in thinking it will be a case of plug and go?

I noticed on ebay there are white square type + boxes and the more sleek slimline type's, will either one suffice for my needs?
Would I need sky to activate it?
    Thank you Carmen x

You need 2 feeds for a Sky+/HD box otherwise you will only be able to tape what you watch. If you have a HD/Ready TV then one of the newer black HD boxes would be better as you can then connect it to your router & use On Demand.

Sorry to be so dim but, could you please explain in simple terms about the feeds? LNB from dish to box, scart from tv to box etc??

Feeds are the cables from the dish to the box.You need two for Sky+/HD.
Laymans terms is the Sky+ box has two tuners,a normal Sky box has one. Each time you change channel, the tuner changes to that frequency & you see the channel you want.
Because the Sky plus has the ability to recored one channel while watching a second channel,a second tuner is required to do this.Because of the way Sky works, the LNB has effectively one or more tuner linked to the tuner in the Sky+ box.
Also with the Sky+,you can record two channels while watching a pre recorded programme because the watched one is saved to the Hard Drive on the box.

So, the subscription is for a main Sky+ box and a second (basic) box.
Is it free to upgrade the subscription to make the 2nd box Sky+ too?

    Thanks Spike,
It appears we do have two feeds :j Just need to get the box now.

May I just ask, our tv is HD ready but how do I know, what do I do to 'apply' it?

    Thank you

You need a black HD Sky box, normal Sky & white Sky+ boxes don't have the HDMI connection needed to use HD.As soon as you hook up a Sky HD box to the TV with a HDMI lead,it'll work. You should have a HDMI channel in your TV's channel menu.
