Is Recorded Delivery a waste of money?

so with 1st & 2nd Class Standard Post You can claim compensation of up to £32 for lost or damaged items., as long as you have the certificate of posting? That's interesting. I usually use recorded delivery for items of around £30 but maybe im throwing money away doing that?
But I must admit, that does seem very open to fraud? (royal mails standard post compensation of upto 32.00) No???
I'm selling a satnav at the moment. Would you use special delivery? And how much would you guess that would cost?0
