Is Recorded Delivery a waste of money?

Sneaky of RM though... it used to be 100 times a first class stamp but at the last price rise it didn't go up to £60 :mad:Mindless_Clone wrote: »For anything worth under £46? No. Just get proof of postage and if it doesn't arrive at destination, refund the buyer and claim from Royal Mail.I need to think of something new here...0 -
I occasionally use recorded to send hard copies of documents, I just want to know that an item has definitely been received - ie been put into the receipient's hands and I'm as I'm not necessarily sending anything of value this service is ideal.
I'm really concerned that letters with recorded delivery stickers are just being posted through the door, if the recipient denied receiving the item then as the sender where would I stand? I presume the signature would've been forged by the postman too, isnt that illegal?0 -

Unless the postman or Royal Mail can be shown as not delivering the item then in a civil court it would look like the receiver of the item was not telling the truth.
I've had past court cases where the other party said they didn't receive any of my letters. I just showed the them in front of the judge all my recorded delivery slips and their argument was blown out of the water.
I had no need to turn up with the signature part as if there was a service issue, like there was on one occasion that one of the parties sent me a letter the judge would expect you to turn up with evidence of it.
Therefore if the postman is just dumping items through your letter box you need to make a complaint to Royal Mail in writing and keep a record.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

If you have a court that accepts proof of postage as enough to prove delivery (which is odd) then a COP would work exactly the same as recorded.
Recorded is only different to a COD if the item shows as delivered, if it doesn't then it is no different at all to a COP.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. My recorded parcel was lobbed through a window. I was and still am annoyed about it. Royal Mail fob you off with a book of stamps and don't care at all. Barstewards.Don't grow up. Its a trap!

I had a recorded item just posted regular post through letterbox. I rang up to make a complaint and was told that there was a signature but the guy I spoke to, while admitting it was wrong, said that often the postman/woman would sign and thats what must have happened. He said that probably they did it as a favour to save me the trouble of having to collect it0

In a weird way I do get this - my collection office is miles away. The point is though that the sender paid extra for the service and expects the recepient's signature for the item. I don't get why they're offering the service at all.0 -
I have to admit, everything I've sent via recorded this year, has had a signature at the other end.
However, I've had several items sent to me that my postie has just delivered
Now if I had been dishonest, I could have raised an INR for these items. He and others who don't do the job properly must be costing RM a small fortune.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
i only use SD as postmen treat RD as standard, ie, no signature.
Fraud basically.0 -
I am not big on eBay these days but my "bessie" assures me that RD is a little money spinner!
She sells fixed price items with "Free" post/packing and sends everything by recorded.
She then monitors the deliveries and completes a P58 everytime that there is no signature. She gets a book of first class stamps for this from RM and she can then sell again on eBay. She assures me that she has been making a profit using this system.
One slight flaw is that RM must be cottoning on to this and have reduced the claim time from 1 year to 80 days and she says you have to be prompt in making the claims as RM are only too swift to throw out those over 80 days...I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0
