Harvey's Furniture

  • I bought a Suite from Harveys of Aylesford in November last year. The salesman assured me the leather suite was covered for animal damage. Well lo and behold 3 months later when I claimed for a scratch on the sofa, they said it had been done over a period of time and my 1 claim was invalid (the salesman never mentioned the 1 claim bit). I went and complained to Harveys who said it was nothing to do with them but the insurance, (which they sold to me), I asked for my 3 years extra warranty to be refunded as It was obviously no good now. Again they said write to the Insurers. Have now given up. I will buy a new suite from a reputable dealer, and dump the old one outside Harveys store with a message ( DON'T BUY HERE)painted across it.

Absolutely no problems with them at all. Bought numerous things from them and have had excellent customer service. Quality of goods first class and i can name loads of happy customers that recommended them to me.

I`ve heard that they charge £47 for delivery no matter how many items are ordered.
    DAK if this is true?
  • as for the £47 del well its kind of true but my region is doing free delivery at the minute and i think the trend is that all stores will be free delivery soon.
I dont know if your aware but in october harveys will be sponsering Coronation street. Still on the delivery aspect many other furniture companies charge i.e. Land Of Leather charge £70 for del and a further del charge for the free patio set!!!!!
SCS charge around £35 etc etc the only other shop that does not charge (and yes there are probably many more, and yes you can haggle over del charges) is DFS.
I also read Kieth1966 about his bad experiance with product protection and the refund part. Well that company no longer works with harveys now as Homeserve have the contract now, and they work with yorkshire water, co-op and many other companies. And as for the refund part, well without sounding coy you should always read the small print. Obviuosly if the insurance company can get away with it then they will. terms and conditions should be read whenever you buy warranties for anything.
The warranty structure is currently under review to make things fairer across the board.
And finally i would like to have a dig at teecee90 who seems to have a vendetta about harveys. I dont know whether you have had a really bad experiance shopping their, or, as i presume, you work for another furniture company who finds it amusing to badmouth others for personal gain. I appologise if i am wrong on the latter if i am but your posts seem very acidic.
If you want to look on the new web site for harveys then google it as i maybe shouldnt place a link :o
  • just to appologise to teecee90 as i have now read most of your posts i see you had a problem with deliveries, i always add a couple of weeks onto lead times when i qoute deliveries as i know there can be problems, and true there have been some damages through a 3rd party courier system when logistics have been stretched due to high demand. I have heard many complaints about many companies, you only have to google any high street name about complaints and they all come up. Its nice to hear Thanks from people too about how happy they are about their furniture which is rare but i see some people take the time to do so.
I get the odd thank you card which is nice and customer returning too for further purchases which means that i and the company i work for is doing something right. Too be honest i have never been happier in a job, and i have had over 30 different jobs in many different genres and altought the hours are pretty grim i.e. i am expexted to work weekends (where the money is) and bank holidays. I feel sorry for store that stay open very late sometimes like land of leather that do a 12 while 12 or 10 while 10pm promotion!
Anyway i think i will shut up now, thanks for listening to my gibbering:o
  • I agree with much of the above. Harveys have rubbish customer service and Homeserve are no better. I reported a fault with a sofa in 9/06 and it has taken this long, and considerable effort, for them to accept they cannot repair it. Harveys are now failing to reply to my letters. How companies like this continue to trade is beyond me, do not touch with a barge-pole!

I had a sickening experience with harveys, short (long) story being i ordered 3 pieces of living room furniture to match a dining table i already had. First of all the sideboard arrived smashed and as i already had one, i ended up with a 6 foot box in my living room for over 4 weeks while i waited for a replacement, aswell as the rest of my furniture. The tv unit was also badly made and we never ended up with a replacement for that (its useable but not worth the money we paid) After something like a 16 week wait we were told the 3rd piece was no longer in stock, which pretty much tipped me over the edge as our matching furniture was far from it.

This all happened as I was expecting my 2nd child and to be told over and over again that "they didnt give compensation" for the many weeks of problems was an added insult to injury ( i was asking for a partial refund to cover the cost of calls, hassle of having to source a matching replacement table, they lost records of the intial order and we had to return to the store and show them our paperwork and to look at the other ranges which was a 50 mile round trip each time) The company also sacked the store manager and we had 3 replacements all muddling through and blaming the original manager.

I couldnt possibly write it all down and the effect it had on my family, although im sure its not a standard they hope to work to, still buying furniture really shouldnt be that hard !!

  • John Lewis furniture is good as is their customer service.

I know some people find JL furniture out of their budget but if you cannot afford to buy new quality furniture then you should seriously consider second hand quality furniture.

Harveys, DFS and the like are the furniture equivelent of KwikSave
  • Went to harveys, Aberdeen, looking for a new dining table and chairs, found on that i loved, so before i even let the guy i was intrested init, i asked how long deliver was, he said no more than 6 - 8 weeks as the table and 2 of the chairs where in stock and would only have to order the other 2, which was fine as i was in the middle of decorating. i also asked if there was any extras with it and he said that if i bought it today i would get 3 years free warranty and free delivery. i thought it was an excellent deal so i bought it there and then with my credit card. coming up to week 9-10 i called to see if there was any sign of a delivery and was told it would take a further 4 weeks and 2 of the chairs where in Germany, but still could'nt give me a date, so i called on week 12 to see if there was any progress even though they said they would call and keep me updated, we have yet to recieve even one phone call from them, they said there was still no sign of them and that they would arrive when they arrived!!! nice attitude!!! week 14, i contacted them again to see if there was any sign of my good, and the guy mummbled something about being in store in England somewhere but even if they came i would not get them because i never paid for delivery!!!! i just could'nt believe it and when i tryed to explain that at the time i purchased the goods the guy had said it was free delivery, so why had it change, he just said, "oh well, its not my problem, he should'nt have said that" after more calls to head office and to customer services we still got nowhere, even when every call we made we were told someone will call back, nobody ever has. have been down to the store where he showed me on the screen that the goods were to arrive on the 23rd of july but nothing came of it, i called once again and they said the goods were not in store even though i was told they were, so my husband called and said to cancel the order and give us our money back, but the guy just turned round and said that we CANT have our money back as the goods were in store in England and had been for several days. (so he was refusing to give us our money back!!) my husband contacted customer services yet again and the lady on the phone said that the goods would be in the aberdeen store on the 21st of August, and could be collected on the 22nd, my husband said was that a definate and she said that she had booked them in for them to arrive on the 21st. we called on the 22nd to collect them that night and lo and behold, the guy at the Aberdeen Brach never knew nothing about, promiced to call my husband back within the hour and we've never heard back from him since. this has been on going for 19 weeks now and we have resorted in contacting a solicitor and citizens advice to see where we stand now. im so upset about this whole sorry mess and wish i had never went to harveys, as we have missed annual family dinners we have for our childrens birthday and our wedding anniversary dinner we do with our family too.
