    I bought this one.

When I link it all up - nothing shows up when I go though the different sources on my TV.

I know the TV works well as my PS3 is hooked up fine!!!

It is easy enough to pick up in Poundland or get a cheap one from Amazon/Ebay. You do NOT need to pay a fortune to get a decent one!

As for adjusting the sound, I can't quite remember as once it is done on my lappie it does it automatically when repeated, but I should imagine it was control panel : sound : playback devices.

The cable you bought cannot possibly work. You have been conned.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Not so much conned, but probably bought the wrong cable. These cables are designed for devices that can transmit digital through the VGA socket. This would include Playstations, DVD players, HDD recorders etc. It also includes a laptop with a graphics card that supports this. However, very few laptops (if any) have this.

Thats only the cable to get if your laptop has an HDMI connector, which not all laptops do.

OP - can you post the model of your TV, and the model of your laptop.

My advice would be to use an RGB to RGB connector (ie a standard cable you'd use to connect a PC or laptop to a normal monitor). Any PC shop or poundland stock them for a few quid. This connects the monitor-out on your laptop to the RGB in on your TV.

For sound you either use your laptops speakers, or use a 3.5mm Stereo Jack Male to 3.5mm Stereo Jack Male (again a couple of quid from a PC or audio store, or poundland again). This connects your headphone-out on your laptop to mic-in on your TV (usually next to the RGB connector).

IF your laptop has an HDMI-out cable then use that as it will mean a single cable, which carries TV and sound!
