I've updated my Saturday now so I have a full weeks menu...

  • Hello!
    Our week will be:

Breakfasts - porridge for me (tesco value) and HM raspberry puree from the glut last year, Mixed meusli & branflakes for DH and DS1, Lidl weetabix for DS2 (too young for meusli and too old for porridge - too much mess at opposite ends depending on which one he is given!!). Toast from HM bread

Lunch - sandwiches (with lots of lovely ideas from the sandwich spread thread), HM soup, sardines on toast, whatever needs using up

    Suppers
Sunday - Roast chicken (my last supper fave!)
Monday - Kedgeree & peas (from freezer)
Tuesday - Rabbit Pie (filling from stew disaster frozen a couple of weeks ago) and bubble & squeak from Sunday's veg left-overs
Wednesday - Broccoli & blue cheese soup (broc was reduced to 50p for huge head in Asda last week, so I bought lots, cooked it, pureed it and froze it). HM ciabatta rolls
Thursday - Pasta & wild garlic pesto (starting to bloom, so need to get lots in now!)
Friday - HM Hamburgers with rolls frozen from Wednesday
Saturday - Mediterranean Fish Stew (sounds smarter than it is - I've got a load of fish that needs using up, plus lots of crab & lobster shells in the freezer, and I'll just whack in some tomatoes, garlic & saffron)

Last week was more successful than the week before - but we did have one glitch when I had gone beyond the end of my tether: two sick and contagious boys at home, bored, crabby, scrappy and high-maintenance - and well-meaning hubby (actually wanting an excuse for a beer!) offered a take-away when I was at my weakest. So HM pizza was replace by take-away Chinese: which was actually a really nice treat, so I'm not going to beat myself up about it.
Oh - and I got confused last night and did HM chicken curry from the freezer with Chana dhal to use up glut of chickpeas in pantry instead of hamburgers - so that is on the list again!

Down to last 3 tubs of rasp puree - but the rhubarb is shooting now and I'll be able to start picking next week - porridge & roasted rhubarb - yum, yum yum! Can't wait....

I love reading your menus HappyatHome. Just the sort of food I like to make. I've got some rhubarb that needs eating up so I might try it on porridge (the damson puree got made into a jelly which no-one likes except me  ). The rhubarb was going to be a crumble after roast chicken today, but I didn't have enough butter and I decided that pudding wasn't necessary owing to all the chocolate lying around :D
  • Thank you thriftlady! If you have any crystallised ginger in your pantry/fridge the syrup is delicious drizzled over the rhubarb... I use the chunks for some cake recipe or other, or rhubarb & ginger jam if I'm feeling lazy - but I always keep back the syrup for that purpose. Its also nice in a retro kind of way on a melon fruit salad....
How could you have bred a family that does not appreciate your damson jelly?
Your compliment is appreciated more than you could know - thank you again!
