I've just received a letter from very informing me of a late payment charge of £12.00 for failing to make payment on time.
Under normal circumstances I could accept this, but I have failed to receive a statement for this month, which I need for two reasons:
1/ To know how much to pay (Minimum)
2/ Giro slip which accompanies the statement.
I have informed them of the issue and they have replied stating that they cannot remove the charge as there are 8 methods of payment.
Firstly, four of the methods require a bank account (Online, DD, Phone and Home Banking)
After looking through previous paperwork, the other four methods (PayPoint, Post Office, Bank and Post) require the slip before I can make Payment:
WAYS TO PAY:
PayPoint: Take your payment slip, and cash up to £99 to any PayPoint outlet. A small charge of £1.00 per payment will be added to your account and will appear on your next statement. You may wish to add £1.00 to your statement to cover this.
Post Office: Take your payment slip and payment to any Post Office. You won’t be charged at the Post Office but a small charge of £1.00 will be added to your account and will appear on your next statement. You may wish to add £1.00 to your statement to cover this. Please make cheques payable to Post Office Ltd.
Bank: Take your payment slip and cash or cheque to your bank or building society. Please make cheques payable to Very. Please note, not all banks offer an over the counter bill payment service.
By Post: Complete the payment slip and send it with your cheque to Payment Department, Sandringham House, Sandringham Avenue, CHELMSFORD, CM92 1LJ. Please make cheques payable to Very and write your account number on the front of your cheque. A small charge of 25p per cheque will be added to your account and will appear on your next statement. Please not – all cheques are cashed on receipt; we do not hold post-dated cheques.
They say they do not allow the non-arrival of a statement as a reason for late payment, yet according to them, I need this slip to make payment using one of the four methods above. Therefore, the reason would seem perfectly valid.
What can I do?

you seem to have missed the fact statements are available online,as are payment facilities
If you use Very, then surely you have a bank account?0

Nope, no bank account. When I signed up, there was nothing to say I needed a bank account.
That leaves the other four methods.0

It does not provide the Giro slip, that is why I e-mailed them to inform them that until I receive the slip I cannot pay. They are sending out a new statement, but not removing the charge.0

Yes it does, but how good is that without the slip to pay?0

You don't need a giro slip - you can just post them a cheque with your account number and the correct amount and they could have credited your account."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0

If you ring them again, talk nicely to them, if its a first offence they may just refund you the £12, dont forget, this 'late payment' will also flag up on your credit file.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0

You don't need a payment slip to pay someone. You just quote their account number and sort code and give your account number as a reference.
Anyone with a jot of savvy or experience will know that. Are you sure you're responsible enough to be asking for credit from companies?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
