Hi all
Short version:- Is there anyway to hurry the social fund to buy me a bed.
Long and complicated version.
I just have got a flat from the local housing authority and the tenancy agreement started on the 1/10. The Local housing benefits just called asking If i have moved in yet. I told them I am in the process of moving in, no point lying. They say give them a call when i move in and they can process my claim.
I can't move in at the moment because my Soon To be Ex wife has gone to another County to visit her friends and I am here looking after the kids.
She's not coming back until I have got a budgeting loan or a community care grant and I have furniture. I applied for these last week, called them earlier and they say to call them in 7 days as it takes 10-13 working days to process them.
I just called the STBXW and her response was "you'll just have to owe the housing association money as you are not moving into a flat with nothing"
So basically Housing Assoc is waiting for money from housing benefit, who is waiting for me to move in, who is waiting for the Ex Wife to come back, who is waiting the social fund to give me money to buy furniture.
Any suggestion would be appreciated. And as Lloyd Bridges once said, "It looks like I picked the wrong week to give up smoking"

How about you get onto https://www.freegle.co.uk or freecycle and see if you can get a bed?
Personally when I moved into my house to live in it part-time I had a sleeping bag and a camping mattress, the old cooker and a bed-side light and radio/tape player. I had to change the sockets before I could plug anything in to them.
Oh and a step ladder that they left.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Considering that your tenancy started on the 01/10, you have effectively 'moved in' as your rent account will be building up arrears. The fact that you are currently looking after your kids somewhere else is irrelevant.
Otherwise, there is not much you can do to speed up the process of applying for loans and grants, you will just have to wait.0 -
Your ex isn't coming back until you get a grant or loan for a bed and says you aren't moving with nothing?
It's got nothing to do with her!!!
Look out for a free bed,get the ex back home and move out as soon as possible as you'll be accruing arrears on the flat.
Ridiculous situation, sorry to say that, but blimey tell her to get her !!! back and move!If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
I'm confused!
Why is your partner saying she won't return until you have furniture? What has it got to do with her?
Are you all moving in or just you?
If it's just you and you are moving because your are separating then she will be none the wiser if you tell her it has a bed (not that she should care anyway).
I'm sure I am missing something as it makes no sense whatsoever!0 -

Exactly what I was thinking.
Is she moving in with you ? if so, what about the bed and furniture you are using now ? can you not take that ?0 -
My "read on it" - which could be wrong as it does make no sense is this
They split - she tells him to move. He doesn't (for whatever reason) - so she goes to see a friend as doesn't want to share a house.
He is saying he "can't move" as doesn't have furniture
Or maybe not - I'm just confused as to how they got SH so quickly, if not then they really have had enough time to get a bed (even an airbed) from freecycle etc.0 -

Makes sense to me but he says it is the partner not allowing him to move.
There is no reason why an able bodied adult cannot manage on the floor so it must be a ploy to get the loan quicker?0 -
I read it that she is nice enough not to force him to move until he is comfortable in his new flat, ie, he at least has a bed to sleep in.0

it's more or less that, except she's forcing me to stay
Social fund told me I couldn't apply until I got somewhere 1st. She knows how impatient I am, I would have slept on a concrete floor with just a single duvet.
Shes being nasty and nice at the same time0
