My Granny specifically requested a low fuss funeral, no processing, no black outfits, no limos, and one simple flower arrangement from everyone.

I know she was your grandmother but to decry flowers as being from a supermarket and not co-ordinating seems a shame to me.

It not just that they were co-ordinating, it's that the types of flowers and colours had real meaning to her life. It's that a lot of thought went into it to make it right. if you've got photo's, a specially chosen coffin, a couple of wreaths that signify the person's life, adding a bunch of £2.99 carnations from the co-op to me is like going to a wedding and adding your own decorations to the cake. I can't think why anyone would want to give flowers, but then I've never been to a funeral (and I've been to lots), where it was the case to take your own flowers. When I die, I don't want cheap bunches of flowers from everyone, I'd rather have something that meant something, not expensive just simple. My grandmother wouldn't have wanted that either and it is a waste of money. Well meaning but a waste. Better gone to charity.

I do however like the take your own flower idea. That's lovely.

I just don't get the laying of flowers in a public place for someone you don't know. It looks lovely but to me its a huge waste of money

I don't get it either, but it's different to a funeral - a very personal event.
